The sooner we nuke Japan again the better.

Why just blame Japan? Whitey eats tuna by the factory-ship-load too.

I'm doing my part by not eating tuna, how about ya'lls?

I read this and reflected on the whole whaling thing as well. it seems to me the idea that the open oceans belong to no one and the wild stocks of fish are there to be hunted by whoever are ending. The entire migratory path of some species - Whales, Tuna - may have to be protected. The carry on with Pete Bethune and Sea Sheppard and the Japanese in the Southern Ocean shows that some countries are going to have to be dragged kicking and screaming to this new concept of the 'high seas".

not the end, Japan is hording stocks and freezing it down, so they can sell it back to us at a fair price once its extinct Smile Thanks Japan!

also, moral concerns aside, why cant we (the human race) just clone farmable versions of these delectable creatures we eat into extinction, at leave the wild uns alone? We have the technology, so wtf?

All this equipment has cost thousands of dollars, and has been developed specially, with no guarantee that it will actually work and produce full-size healthy tuna.

So we are not sure if the technology exists yet?

well the farming has obviously been a complete failure if stocks are still being destroyed.

So maybe we just don't have the technology to farm tuna in a sustainable and economically viable manner.

Has anyone seen that documentary channel show called "Cheating Death: Tuna Cowboys"?

Cool show on how they catch and move tuna from the southern ocean thousands of km north to fatten them up in massive pens.

Proper Palin logic would have a lot more apostrophes though:

Y'all jus' wen' fishin' an' caught a few big 'uns, honky dory y'all.
[quote]
hahaha...well played...but to be fair, the did attribute a lot of that to reduced legal catch amounts or some such, having helped the population stabalise...if they were over fishing to the point of damagaing the population, they're generally not living long enough to get that big, so there is *some* logic at play there.

This!
Makes deadliest catch look like farming sheep.
These dudes use floating corralls (sp?) to bring the catch back. All the while dudes have to jump in and mend the corral nets with giant darning needles, that impossibly big sharks (namely Makos, deeps sea and all). But here is the best bit.
They have to try and push the sharks back out of the holes they made!!!

A lot of populations in the sea seem to be massively depleted if the numbers are right. Pretty upsetting when it gets to this level.
