yeah....agree with everything that article was saying.....but it should've been published a wee while back now.

Also, I probably don't know enough about it, but from what I do know, the really big 'minimal' tracks out there (no pun intended) were still ones that had a bit of pop, funk and bounce to them - I always found "proper minimal" to be 'slit your wrist out of boredom' shit.......

Most minimal was only ever alive to the same extent that a dental surgery has soul.

"proper minimal" = John Cage 4'33

I tend to agree with the article, loads of people at the momement have taken some of that minimal aesthetic and production and run with it to more interesting places (for want of some examples; seth troxler, dop, dettmann and klock, chloe, onur ozer (as mentioned), daze maxim, the mighty dj koze, the deep house and dub techno revivalists using elements of it).

For quite some time now it has felt more like houseier influences and dubstep are the exciting points in music. I was listening to a pan pot set recently that I played repeatedly a few years ago, and it's just not sounding fresh now minimal is so pervasive (well not in Nz but you get the idea).

I guess i view dubstep the same. Ive heard a few good tracks but so so much boring ass that it is obvious that as soon as a genre name is catching on, its time to get off....

To me great minimal tracks are great techno. If it must be a sub genre i always preferred the more descriptive "dubby techno" anyway.. Getting down to "minimal techno" sounds all a bit ascetic.

"Hey check out this new genre - austere house"....buwahahhaha

what most McClubbers these days consider Minimal is really just updated Prog. Although i like Dubfires coin for the genre the best, "Stadium Minimal" Laughing

me too.

Lots of good techno at the Minus, Contakt show last weekend, not really minimal, but it never sounds very mnml on a proper system anyway.
