Well seeing as this is a House forum. Thought I would contribute a post with 2 NZ producers releasing a feel good funky house tune, that is already receiving some good praise from some big cats in the UK. None of this Electro business that is littering Auckland's dance clubs at the moment.

The Auckland House Authority's first release - Exclusively released on LITTLE LOVE RECORDS in 2009.

JUST RELEASED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jolyon Petch vs General Lee club mix
http://www.xpressbeats.com/#content^/release/the-music-2009-40451^2763

Producers: Jolyon Petch, Leigh Dolbear
Guitar: Riqi Hadfield Harawira
Sax: Lewis McCullam
Keys: Jolyon Petch

Special Thanks to James Wiltshire of the Freemasons

Uplifting funky house music at it's best. This tune oozes sexy summer goodness and leans towards a slight Junior Jack bassline with a bit of an edge..

FREEMASONS
"Just heard "The Music" first track I've heard this year and it's just put a huge smile on my face - well done - simply brilliant - keep it up - you're gonna have a killer year with tracks like this ... and basslines like that!"

SOUL AVENGERZ
"The boys from down under come up trumps once again with a timely update of the defected classic...full support from the Soul Avengerz"

TIMMY VEGAS (SOUL CENTRAL)
"Classic feel good sample with pumping bass line for the main rooms"

cheers dude. Been getting some awesome response from this.

Respect to anyone who has been supporting our mix and pushng us up the Xpressbeats chart.

Had a few more DJ reactions and a review by M8 magazine:

SOLITAIRE
One of house music brightest new stars shows why he's now in the major leagues. This update of the old Phunkie Souls disco-house nugget is a terrific retro delight and DJ essential

JON FITZ (HERD N' FITZ / BODYROCKERS)
Lovin it! Great track! Love the feel & an absolute stormer. Gets my backing & will sure be in my sets everytime...

M8 MAGAZINE
Created by one of house music brightest new stars, New Zealander Jolyon Petch, whose recent remix of the Freemasons elevating him into the big boy league. On this update of the old Phunkie Souls disco-house nugget, ‘Tha Music’ (actually based on samples lifted from ‘Don’t Need No Music’ by TJM featuring vocals by Ron Tyson) the antipodean revisits the hedonist late-’90s, with considerable aplomb – little wonder the likes of the Freemasons, Solitaire and Soul Avengerz are already championing this retro delight. obviously shit dude.. Can't please everybody.. But as it stands.. #1 in the charts! Froggy Supported by countless talented producers & DJ's around the world..

Yeah, very true. But let's be honest here, what does it take to be #1 these days? If you feed people shit for long enough, they get used to the taste eventually and consider it normal. Then social-network yourself into enough places, convince them that you're doing something fresh and con them into buying a copy online and you're done.

I Challenge you "mr know it all". C'mon Step upto the plate make a tune and get it onto a well known dj download site up the charts within a week to number #1 and supported by loads of top producers and DJ's..

Also "Mr td" Try some positivity in your daily life, you may find better things happen to you and people are nicer to you.

Good to know that your argument, much like your music, hasn't changed. You throw the same kind of answer out every time someone on these boards has anything questionable to say about your work.

Like you said, you can't please everyone. But there really isn't any need to be so defensive every time someone says they don't like something you've done.

Relax dude.

i know i am quite ignorant, but has anybody else ever heard of the Xpressbeats chart?

all power to ya jolyon, sounds like you are having fun doing what ya doing!

Cant say I have ever herd of this xpressbeats site or chart......

Dick Johnson Reviewed this song on george fm a few days ago and it went something along the lines of this.... with so much good music out there, there is no need to be making dated formula based funky house music like this, the production is ok but originality and creativity is no where to be found....

In fairness, did anyone see the reviews of Danny Tenaglia's Futurism comp - a couple of which singled out Dick's track as the worst inclusion on it.

I also read a review of Omid 16b's latest release which said it was basically shit when people I respect who've mentioned all said it is totally awesome.

I.e. Reviews mean whatever you want them to mean. Charts mean even less. Voted lists even less again.

As I said before you can't please everyone. And Dick Johnson is certainly not a DJ we are aiming our music at.

Xpressbeats is more focused for funky house & electro artists. Labels such as Subliminal, Phonetic, Gfab, Loaded, Basement boys, etc, etc use it for promo release and see what reactions they get out of it.

It also gives me an outlet to get more original NZ music out there.

TJM was American as far as I know. A re edit of a bootleg = NOT original.LOL, you are the king of self ............

Sorry Jolyon but I just had a listen the 'original phat club' mix of that on trackitdown and it's a steaming pile of crap. It's closely matched in this respect by the Kid Massive mix. O.M.G!

I hope a serious chunk of the revenue from it is paid to the actual original artist because his idea makes up 90% of what is good about those mixes.

At least with your mix you had the decency to not use the obvious sample from the original yet again and tried to do something different/more original.

The Ruben Alvarex mix has some promise. Any version of it without the vocals?

Bro it's been resung by Peyton.. and the strings were replayed.. I'm not really a huge fan of the other mixes.. I have the soul avengerz dub.. did you hear that?

Yep, realise that. It's quite clear that it's not Teddy Pendergrass on vocals, nor the original licks. What I meant re: the orig and Kid M mixes is the only part which sounds any good to me is the bit which they just recreated from the Teddy P original.

Dunno if I listened to the SA dub you mention, I just went down the list on the release page and listened to each clip.

To be honest, never been a big fan of Peyton's vocals either. Not sure why.. Needs more Arnold Jarvis imo. Wink

This is your thread anyway - not going to keep it side-tracked in another debate on whatever I like/dislike about a tune.

Christ on a bike, nothing changes 'round here. At least it's something different from all the spam on this forum recently. Or are we just discussing spam and is that the way forward?

As for the two releases that have re-used the TJM and Teddy P samples (again): creativity and ingenuity are at an all-time low (see the sampling thread), but ya can't blame a man for turning down the remix work.

For what it's worth Jols' remix of "Call Me" on Seamless has a decent Martin Solveig "Rocking Music" feel to it.

PS: Basement Boys ain't funky house even if they put their back-cat on xpressbeats
