Can t help thinking that Ponting has already been told he is career is over.... and this supposed "shifting of the fracture" is just spin doctoring to allow him to go out with more dignity (more dignity that he deserves as well)

After his speech about not even thinking about retiring.... Im betting he announcing his retirement after the Syndye test citing "discussions with family/ new injury prognosis/somehow whatever the result of the test is. bla bla bullshit DUMPED!

Doesn't change anything, its still a horrible idea. However even Aussie domestic cricket is a fucken mess so there really isn't anyone else. Maybe North but he sure as hell aint ready.

How is it a horrible idea when he's the best and most obvious candidate? Already the limited overs captain and has been for some time. Pretty clear cut call so you can't just sit there and say it's a horrible idea without any explanation whatsoever to make it seem like you know what you're on about!

Clarke's been groomed to be test captain for ages... it's probably the best choice but he's so unlike any Aus captain I can think of; they've all generally been a bunch of tough, stubborn cunts -- nothing like the glamour boy persona of Clarke.

Not the limited over captain, only T20's and that is because Ponting is not playing T20's.

He is the obvious captain and perhaps right now the best candidate but to me its still a horrible idea. He is a boy and leading Australia is a mans job. He is out of form with the bat, and even so plays flamboyant shots that is not needed and gets him out in a time when his team needs him to bat and be stable, this to me is a on-going issue. He seems to be more occupied with his personal life and fancy life style than playing cricket. Breaking team meetings and not eating with the team because he is doing it with his girlfriend in the past. Small things but things that someone trying to lead a country should not be doing. He has been groomed for this role for a long time and he still does shit like that. The things the Aussie media reports is hillarious ... that and no one likes him.

Looking at him today again made me wonder. His field placing was bizare to say the least but its almost like he made the changes and rather than looking silly and changing it back to what works he would persist with stupid placement. Giving Mitchelle the new ball has time and time again proven to be a fuckup and there is a reason that since what 08? 09? he hasn't taken the new ball but OH YEAH don't worry new captain wonderfull will give him the ball ... SMASHED.

Being the captain is not about trying to be "cool" which is clearly what Clarke think its all about.

I think the meaning of "horrible idea" is somewhat lost in translation dude. Whilst undoubtedly we agree that he's probably not going to be a very good Australian captain, he's the only real choice - hardly what we call a 'horrible idea'.

Anyway.

With the Johnson thing, I think it was worth a crack this time. Johnson is one of those players that needs a bit of faith and confidence if he has any chance of doing well. I like captains that play on hunches and as the commentators alluded to yesterday there was a real feeling that (after Perth) Johnson bowls well after batting well. Obviously that was proven to be incorrect, but let's be honest Clarke is on a hiding to nothing and showing a little bit of faith in your main 'weapon' to open the bowling on a swinging deck is hardly the stupidest call ever made.

Clark should have lost all captaincy cred the moment he left the touring party in NZ to go home so he could break up with his girlfriend. The last Clarke-esk Australian captain was Kim Hughes and he bawled in his exit speech. Is making Haddin captan such a terrible idea just cos hes keeper?
