SOMEONE BRING THOMAS HECKMAN TO THE SHORES!!!!!!
[quote]
i challenge highspeeddubbing to become this "SOMEONE"
[quote]
I second that!!!

He's dope.
Loved his acidhousedetroitechexperience when he played here... ahhhh.... wasn't really concentrating too much, mainly shitting my pants being the first big gig I'd played at !!
[quote]
Going further off topic here but can someone knowledgeable please explain the difference musically between Thomas Heckman, Thomas Brinkmann, and Thomas Fehlmann? Obviously the names are similar and I confuse them alot are any of them the same artist?

Btw Fehlmann's 'Visions of Blah' is a wicked album Smile
[quote]
well that's easy... Thomas Heckmann is the man behind
Drax (Trope) who had a huge techno-acid hit on his
hands with "Amphetamine" in the early nineties. It is still
revered by techno spotters all over the world to this day.
Thomas Fehlmann was the genuis behind Sun Electric.
(remember Wau Mr Modo and the beautiful Designers
Republic sleeves with the concentic circles?) Also a part -
time member of The Orb in their hayday and part of a
loose collective called 3MB which attempted to fuse
German and Detroit ideologies, which at the time when
you think about it, was groundbreaking. Amongst it's
ranks was the infamous Juan Atkins.... check "Jazz is the
Teacher" on Metroplex. Thomas Brinkmann is at the
forefront of the Cologne techno scene which includes
Kompakt (the label/record store), Jorg Burger (The
Modernist) and Mike Ink... He has a plethora of labels inc.
Max Ernst (of which all the titles are girls names running
in alphabetical order) and has recently recorded as Soul
Centre on Nova Mute sampling old blues and gospel
tracks!!!. He shot to fame with a two armed turntable
(which he built himself ) which had different EQ settings
for each cartridge and he often played the records at the
wrong speed. Ritchie Hawtin sawone of his performances
and asked him to remix the "Concept" series. These were
a series of minimal 12"s released once a month for a year
with only a dots signifing the release. Concurrent to this
was Mike Ink's classic "Studio 1" series which were
denoted only by their colour!!! It all went extremely pear
shaped when Ink started up the Kreisel imprint and
attempted to release a 7" a week leading up to the turn of
the century. He either ran out of time, or ran out material,
and enlisted the help of a few mates on some of those
releases.

[quote]
easy.

[quote]
Thanks man, thats some heavy knowledge right there Smile. I will definitely check those names, though I imagine some of those releases are fairly rare...

[quote]
hey come on guys I was being facetious!!!

hardhouse is like the worst form of music known to man...I would rather listen to Country & Western than hardhouse!
[quote]

Don't you own a cowboy hat Tom???
[quote]
In all seriousness Johnny Cash is awesome so I definitely agree there.

[quote]
i thought they played hardhouse/harddance up at mix tom. is there realy some techno going on there sometimes?
[quote]
Judging from the cool tunes he buys, then I'd say yup Smile
[quote]
Just actually read the opening post.... maybe I should do that more often :l

Is there techno at studio9??? Last I heard the only platform for techno was at Coda's blackroom parties??

bigups the capital!
[quote]
hmm what an interesting thread this has turned into....

I would like to see more weird ass shit dropped in the middle of techno sets =)

Just discovered the joys of Mr Scruffs 'fish' and 'shanty town', much to my workmates disgust =)

Actually, my friend has this wicked 80's NZ learn how to jazzercise record, some NICE samples in there...

Anyway, Tom, either your digging for controversy, or you are just a plain old bigot =)
[quote]
just a note on thomas heckmann....

personally the man is a cock!

i had the pleasure of having him stay at my house when he was over in about '95. ungrateful muthafucker that was just after all the hard to find shit he couldnt get in germany.

also, he was very rude to our main man denver... i suspect thomas may be part of the nazi movement.

just thought u should know.
[quote]
I heard DJ Rush drop 'Daddy Who, daddy cool' mid set a couple of years ago. Groovy baby! hah
[quote]
Tho you did like when he dropped 'A Pretty Face' by Puslinger+co eh alec? Smile
hehe
Oh, and Seawolf...

Think Denver + Germany don't see eye to eye, remember when he got bounced from the tunnel in the mid nineties? Too brown for his own good Sad

Manage any temples lately denver? Good beats in the jungle these days? ahem
[quote]
I play techno and tech house at mix.

only thing close to hardhouse I play is those tunes that techno producers make that kinda take the piss outta the hardhouse sound - well that was my interpretation anyway. (I'll check the titles tonight and list some examples 2morow).
[quote]
what like you mean the new advent stuff?

heh
[quote]
Anyone heard the new advent stuff??? Sure miles will be dropping a fair bit, all very very clubby, almost southsoul, amazing - surprising change of pace from his last year of 150bpm warehouse style.

Smile
[quote]
techno is growing in so many new directions....

ive seen some minds coming together even on this post!
keep it up boys and girls...

viva la truth.
[quote]
some of the new advent is wicked!!
the orbeat 003 release is very very cool. miles was dropping that a while back on slipstream, although i heard cisco dropping it mid/late last year on some online mix in italy.
yeah, im glad its not around the 150bpm, can actualy mix it without going -4!
looking forward to more of that shit, hes getting a bit of that italian influence it seems..
[quote]
have u got ur order in yet Crucial?

i feel like wasting my hard earned cash on loads of new records (& feel free to put aside some of that new advent stuff if u got anySmile
[quote]
Back to thomas heckman,(ha ha) I did some
research and I hear Jeff at george is the man to
talk to.
Also speaking of Ardouse in all honesty I have
noticed that a few of "thier" fans at
catalyst......antisipating the big synth breakdown
into some trance pop, but it just keeps on
building.those bunnys dance funny too, they just
sort of shuffle from side to side.
(i tried so hard not to say somthin but......)
[quote]
What about Laurent Garnier? is he a cock
to?...im sure hed love NZ with all the dope

Hello everyone. Analog-sniper here .

As far as getting a night off the ground. My lable mate here in the UK are are moving to Auckland in Sept and plan on starting a night.Christian Smith does a night in NYC where DJ's that were playing at the bigger clubs the night before, do a industry nighty and you get to see them for next to nothing.order to get an industry night going like this something needs to be put in place such as a dedcated techno monthly and that either be a club or a party. The party makes more sense. This is just money thing. I hate to say it but if you want a techno scene in Auckland you have to put your money where your mouth is.I know one thing is for certain , I have played all over the europe and the states and one thing is universal and true, everyone likes techno, they just dont know it. SO its your job if you want a scene to come together and start supporting the scene that you want.If anyone is producing start sending your stuff to bigger producers and having them do remixes and true it might cost you some coin , but look at it this way. You put it out and people might not know your name , but they will now the other guy and then that helps you put yourname and lable and most important NZ on the radar screen.SO with that said I hope things will be better in the way of techno nights in Auckland come sept. But if there not I will be keen on getting things going and will welcome all the help that you techno heads can provide. Maybe Auckland should look into pirate radio , worked for us here in london.. I know that i dont know the local politics of Auckland and I'm not saying that my formula is correct , but is more or less the path to be taken. Its time for a Techno revolution. " MaKE IT HAPPEN"

ANALOG-SNIPER & ANT
DROP TRACKS AND NOT BOMBS :}
[quote]
Smile all true A-S, funnily enough, this is a formula that has happened time and time again.... back in the early days we had:

93-85Rebel Alliance/wharehouses+
96-98 Move/Underworld/anywhere
96-97 Straylight/Box
98 Remote Control/Interference/Herzog
99Textures/I Love Techno/Superfly
00-01 Circuit/Techno Bells/FU
02 Hardsoul/Galatos

EVERY single institution was good, every one had it's pros, and were good nights. The only thing missing about them all was the CROWDS continued attention.... while the music + djs got better, the crowds got more and more shit.

Christian's Tronic Treatment is an excellent night, when you've got Advent Live, Marco Carolla, Funk D Void and Gaetek for free, tho it's a little differnet from having locals Sad

Releasing music looks to be the key now, every other avenue seems to be exhausted on Auckland. Nothing to do with the amount of advertising (same crowds no matter how much time+money you throw at it), nothing to do with venue, or djs... hmmmm..

It will happen, everyone's just gotta stick to their guns :"
[quote]
I would think that A-S also isnt aware of the problem of the word "techno" here being widely missunderstood, reguardless of the amount of education attempted. Often our best "techno" nights are ones that arent billed as techno, at least not specifically labeled.

The suble approach seems to be working though, the gigs have been getting progressivly busier over the last few months. Maybe too much hype actualy doesnt work for us here in NZ?
[quote]
"misunderstood in NZ" i should have said.

Nothing wrong with the Melbourne scene thats for sure.
[quote]
Point well taken gentlemen. Sounds like things have been good over the years. I do believe that that other forms have been pushed down the throats of the masses and sure techno is not for everyone. Most people who like techno search it out and maybe the fact of the matter is that techno is maybe for the refined ear. With techno you have to think and well for instance trance you dont and then you have the big sponcorship that gets behind trance and hard house. What to do? Crucial had it right when he mentioned making music is the key :}

[quote]
Yes I do aggree with the production ideals, but It
still leaves the question unanswered 'how to
increase'?,........id like to suggest crossgenre
pollination,for example Laurents house efforts
are equal if not better than alot of his techno.Im
trying to say techno may be viewed as
secondary or selective to the munter in
comparrison to the acts which house attracts so
maybe a little more education or a bigger
guiding hand may be of help.I think the time is
right as ive seen a number of trance/house
bars closing on kroad.and the whole house
scene is absolutely stale. With Hamilton to get
anybody to listen to techno I would have to take
them there oh so gradually from house which is
a challenge.but now requests for techno are a
plenty.
ps.anybody want to come and play at our night
in hamilton.its pulling good numbers and we
run it till 5am.
[quote]
drop me an email, ill come for andf shake your floors...

djmaya@xtra.co.nz

ps....to analogue sniper!

are we talking about ANT from Kinetic ???
[quote]
you got an email address highspeeddubbing?
[quote]
Think that the main problems at the moment is lack of new blood, and the general 'worn out'ness of most of the oldschool (who like to prop the bar, and enjoy the tunes, but rarely get up to shake their booty).
The second one is normal for any scene, so don't think it can be fixed, though the first is well worth looking at... that's why I said we need to encourage more people who've never heard it before to come along.
Cross polonation works a bit (but not too much). Diehards don't like house, and house lovers don't like diehardtechno. You end up playing southsoul all night and nobody wins (except gaetek Wink

nothign against southsoul, it's good stuff, though it's one slim part of the spectrum.
[quote]
Hey thanks for remembering Remote Control
Matt Wink
[quote]
yo dick_ride....DATS are at crucial. I've recorded "DJ Jizzmatron Lays Down the Law" for posterity.

[quote]
highspeeddubbing@hotmail.com.of course,or try m4media@xtra.co.nz(thats mukura)

ps. is anybody playing live, ive rocked a few sets on an 808 and would love to do it again.

pps. WHERE THE FUCK IS ANATOMIC??and FORDY(pnc)aka slim Mat aka nicely smoothly??
[quote]
thanks Simon, you da mantissssss
[quote]
ANATOMIC is here in hawkes bay and is semi retired and is now playing house grooves...and is not anywhere near the standard he was once known for...but hey il gladly take his place if your looking for new techno talent.
[quote]
anatomic is the shit...past and present! alot of respect for this man and what hes done for the scene..and he managed to do it with out bully tactics! eh paul?!
[quote]
plus he aint for being a 'nark' either like yourself paul.
[quote]
soda why dont you just grow the fuck up!!!!!

and what r u doin in the techno forum(besides tryin to stir shit)when you play cheesy hard house, and you always dis people that are playin techno.

techno heads are pure-ists

pull your head out of your arse and go and find something else to do with your time.

and i dont know where the fuck you got the idea of me being a nark when your the pussy that put a tresspass order out against me....when im not even the one you have the problem with...i just got stuck in the middle of all your pussy fuckin bollocks for defending a friend....

and that friend is someone worth defending unlike yourself.....your the freak that couldnt score his own mrs and weasled in on somebody elses when they already had a child together.you loser.

sure you might be married to her now but from what she told me it sounds like you had a shotgun wedding...another reason why you are such a pussy, you had to get mummy and daddy to put the hard word on her and she felt like she was pushed into something she wasnt ready for.(the truth is dirty).and its not like shes a super model anyway.

sorry people for dumping this in the techno forum but im just sick of this guy giving me stick about something that i have no control over or any real connection with.(stuck in the middle again).

oh and i wouldnt have so much respect for anatomic if he was tryin to score my wife..

[quote]
Get your shit off the forum Soda and Force5. Nobody would have taken this seriously if you hadn't got jumpy. Anatomic is a fucking amazing dj when he's on point, but like Denver McCarthy, when he's got other things on his mind it can be pretty mild, which will still equal most djs best performances Smile

As the man's said many a times, he's more about pushing the music (ie. promoting) than being a dj, and I've seen him help many many folk up, when he could have been bigging himself up. FULL respect to one of the key players of NZ's electronic scene...

I have no idea about what he's doing with your wife, but bring it up with him in person, don't try to defame him on a public forum. Not cool.

OK. back to point, there's a lot more people writing techno now, which is all good, and people are starting to make a fairly loose network, and are getting their shit together, so hopefully soon everyone will be at a point of shopping tracks.

The big difference between here and most other places is that NZ is a shit place to release, it really is a dead end unless you've got a very commercial sound like Nysian Mistik, or Samenola Dub - who can probably survive slightly off theirmusic, but will still be wanting to get overseas with their product - might have been better to get over first like doign what PMoney has tried to do with NY and Mark de Clive Lowe is doing in London.

So even if everyone starts releasiing music, it'll still have an international presence, with little local presence, although local media will of course have it's look in, it's still going to be outside of pretty much everyone's comfort zone, so we're going to still be in a difficult boat.

Unfortunatly it seems that techno as a form moves too fast for NZ tastes, maybe it'll always outdistance itself, who knows, tho we're all probably stronger for keeping trying and not giving up Smile

[quote]
good point crucial about the fast pace and change of techno form. unless you are realy into it and keep your ear to the ground it must become quite difficult to keep up. this kinda goes against the quick fix mentality of most punters, as well as stir up debate between dated tastes and contemporary tastes.

[quote]
yeah, unfortunatly, by the time the music gets any floor play here, it might have been out for a month or two, making it hard for the dj to get into it as much as say the punter who's never heard a track, where as if you're overseas, you'll be breaking tracks all the time, and crowds and dj alike will be going off (best in my opinion, as a dj, if you get into a track, chances are the crowd will also, or at least feed off your vibes)...
[quote]
the most frustrating thing I've found is we all often sit around with the records (maybe even before they've had a euro release date!!) and can't play them...
Adds to the feeling of frustration.
[quote]
Well now Mix has closed theres even less places to go for techno. Any word bout Hardsoul Crucial? You could bust the new tracks there...
[quote]
wicked wicked night in hamilton on saturday.had four kids askin me to right down names and stuff(mainly headzone!)nitrus all over the floor.

lots of girls asking what is this music?hard house hard trance?.then after I tell them its techno they all thought that "techno" was a term to describe ..electronic dance music!

the enthusiasim in there dance and the looks on thier faces as "this is new" sort of expressions was undescribable.ATMOSPHERE
and the funniest thing was the age of most tunes we got the best reactions to all the older stuff.
say 95 -98.

very inspiring.
[quote]
cool, excellent to see... keep the word spreading!!
[quote]
yeh yeh that sounds good HSD!
its true - everyone thinks 'techno' is a generic term rather than a specific area of dance.

Re: fast pace of change, well yeh I for one admit that its way too fast for me (not being professionally involved and having my head full of too much other shit ) I guess thats why I like to be talking or threading with other technoheads so that I can hear new names and pick up on them etc....
So yeh its good to hear all you peeps throwin names around etc.
Aargh dunno what I really wanted to say here heheh-just been a bit quiet and wanted to stick my head up again and say Ya-boo!
[quote]
Boo ya

Techno is a generic term for most people, nice to hear the re-education is happening HSD Smile

The funniest time for me was the person who told me that Groove Armada played 'techno' when they visited here...
[quote]
I was once assured that a person loved techno, especially Fat Boy Slim....
[quote]
i once got asked to "play some techno" while in the middle of a set.

ahem
[quote]
HEHE....

ive had loads of people comment without ever mentioning the word techno. wow man....this is really wicked hardhouse, or trance etc...
its just an info thing.
majority rules kinda thing.
survival of the fittest...

so who da fittest?
[quote]
Jeff Mills - Kase, some girl outside:
Man, this is the most amazing hardcore house, you should check it out...

thought projex was hardcore house;0
[quote]
we play mostly hard techno (though we're not purist about it and mix it all up with hard trance and usually have a lot of acid lines flying around) on saturday nights (from midnight) on UPFM - we've had quite a few phone calls now and they all go (in a kind of awestuck tone) "what sort of muic is this???". People have been force fed so much populist trance and hardhouse in auckland that they don't even know this shit exists. All I can do is keep on playing it and hoping that enough people come round to it and make full on techno nights more viable.
