After a stonking night out at Girls Love Bass, I've decided to make more of an effort with my Techno listening...I used to be well into the sound a few years ago, but recently I just ain't been hearing it, and I've not made it to many techno gigs. Simply cause I've been going to house/dnb gigs instead.

So, Techno 101...who's on form right now producer wise? Top 5 tunes? On-form local DJ's? (I have to put in my 5c worth on Dan Morgan here, heard him at Hardsoul a while back and loved it!, plus respect to the ladies at Fu on Sat night) Live sets to look out for on P2P networks?

If you want to purchase a good mix CD go grab Umek's new one - Torture Chamber 2.

It's chocka block full of phat funky techno goodness and probably one of the best cd's I've listened to this year.

All I can do is recommend Swayzaks latest mix 'Groovetechnology v1.3' niceness on the more melodic/minimal side of things and a track from the Nurture cd pops up Smile wicked stuff.

I'm glad to say that the Ben Sims mix is really great, big tribal techno action by one of the leading names in the business... also check the CD by Stanny Frannssen on Zenit (he's one of the head honchos at I Love Techno in Belgium) a little harder, but nice to hear the prime time Europen tracks put together by a very enjoyable mixer. Steve Rachmad on Musicman is good, very minimal tight pacey techno, lots of hooklines and closed hihats! Oliver Ho's mixcd is really nice, more of a production than anything, he's using the studio to work the tracks togehter really well. Rob Hood on Logistic is a true lesson in minimalism, very energetic and hypnotic.... the Charles Siegling from Technasia called PLUS is nice, hard techno mixed live in Bejing!! And for a histroy in Detroit the DJ Rolando mix on UR is great (watch out for his new mix CD due soon!)... Matt
