As luck would have it I'm in the UK as the T20 World Cup starts. Looks to be an interesting tournament with the rising success of the IPL, lots of players in good form.

Just watching this warmup game, SA v SL, and the Jaapies have SL on the ropes- 44/7. I'm gonna go out on a bit of a limb and say SA are my pick for this tournament. They've had some players in good form in the IPL. Will either be India or Aus in the final, especially if, again, IPL form is any indicator. Although India still don't appear to have found their niche as a TEAM recently in the T20 format.

Went to the NZ v Aus warmup yesterday. We were on a hiding to nothing from 6/4, but good innings from the Pig and McGlashan snuck us through to a respectable 147. Aussie ran it down pretty easily though.

Think it will be SA, India, Aus & NZ semi finalists.

NZ did their best to try and lose that match against Scotland. I think they will be very relieved with that win.

...but with a 10+ minute break between innings? Surely they could just run off, slap their pads on and get back out there and have 9 overs each?

Woeful bowling from NZ. Half trackers down legside. Over pitched deliveries well outside off.

...and then Ross Taylor tries to sabotage it by stupidly running McCullum out then facing 3 dot balls to some average off spinner. At least he followed that up with a couple of slog 6s.

Yeah what vadz said, its riduculously easy to lose a 7 over game vs just about anybody so this result is a good one

Looks like the boys didnt bowl well but the power in our top 4 was underlined.... which is why RA is having a dig. He's starting to crap himself thinking about what McCullum and Taylor are going to do to his bowlers in the next game

Didnt help our best bowler by a mile and captain is injured either...how about cutting the guys some slack for a change instead of dwelling on small negatives. imo we will f*ck those terribly over rated filthy safas up in the next game and cruise into the semis top 2 qualifier

The bowling however was shit, it was a short game and NZ let Scotland get ontop of them and that shouldn't have been allowed. The game is to short to have lapses like that, where was the variation in speed, line/length and yorkers in those 7 overs? Anyway just glad they won and Ryder did well.

One thing that concerned me that was related to this was the comments O'Brien made during the innings break. That they had done some research on the Scottish players and had a plan to bowl to them but it didn't come off. I noted O'Brien bowled short in his one over. That may be all well and good if the batsmen has a general weakness to short pitched bowling in an ODI. But in a 7 over match surely you have to focus on stopping boundaries. And bowling short when the batsmen are madly swinging the bat at every single delivery is just stupid. You can't top edge the ball for 4 from yorker length deliveries.

WoW best bowling and fielding I have seen from NZ in a very long time. Everything that I said they lacked against Scotland was there and so much more.

SA about 40 runs short of a competative score and on this pitch NZ will chace it down. Seems a little weird how they played, AB in at 6 then not brining Morkel in till after Boucher. No rush from GS even when things got tough.

Typical NZ. Fail yet again to chase down a gettable total. They seem to be able to go after massive scores ok, but fail with the average ones?

I also think for the second game in a row they sent Oram in at the wrong time. They were only down a few wickets. Send someone in who can go for a bash from ball one. There were several deliveries in the last couple of overs that could have been punished, but they were just misshit.

Oh well, at least it was close.

Maybe I should of worded it non-scoring, however, still have memories from the Indian T20 where we 'left' a lot of balls - Test match style leaves.....

We seem to get stuck in Test MAtch mode, several of the deliveries we didn;t score off this morning weren't 'good balls' the batsmen just didn't go after them. Maybe through a lack of ffotwork or one Roman-K would love, a lack of 'creativity'.

Thought it was a crap game actually. Even if we won I wouldn't have rated it.

We will ALWAYS have to bowl that well to compete with South Africa. Thank fuck we have Butler atm- he seems to be the only bowler who can consistently hit the mark. My hatred for Kyle Mills burns stronger than ever. He's a piece of shit. Thank goodness we're still an excellent fielding unit too.

They're a far superior bowling unit to us. Parnell and Steyn have superb control at the death. We were stupidly lucky to get at least a dozen runs in the last 2 overs. We will never score more than 140-150 against that bowling.

McCullum fucked that whole chase for us too. Trying to be the match winner himself instead of going for the runs when we needed it through the middle overs.

Well played SA, especially that death bowling. But still thought it was a crap game.

Both India and South Africa would have posted 220+ scores with the way WI bowled and fielded last night. Some of the worts fielding I have ever seen from one side. With some good fielding from SL, WI still managed to score 180 odd. Still not impressed mate, its like saying Ireland is awesome because they smashed Bangladesh, its just 2 bad teams playing each other.

Still completely bamboozled by how they worked out the Super8 seating.

Without question it should not be a six. At no point is the ball grounded behind the boundary, and at no point is the field holding the ball while ground behind the boundary.

The law is clear, and correct. no 6.

Actually I was wrong but so you still are too....i think

In the SL cricketers case he had already taken all the heat off the ball, ie it hadnt been hit from 70 odd metres therfore has more velocity etc

I dunno though...I still reckon some players might have it in them to step back over the line several paces and do a kind of a jumping catch and manage to propel the ball back over the rope begore they touch the ground

Maybe we can test it out at the next biggie net

Neil you don't understand what I'm talking about. It has to do with where the player starts their movement. If the player jumps from outisde the boundary, he is ALREADY outside the boundary, thus making it a 6. If he leaves the ground from teh field of play it's still legal.

It makes sense and is applied in many different sports. Although to be fair the line or boundary rules are vastly different from sport to sport. I just think if he's lept from outside the boundary, the player has demonstrated himself to be outside the field, thus making it a 6. And if taken to the extreme, Maestro is right.

a) I know it's not the law, I think it needs to be reviewed
b) We should be encouraging people to do it from inside the boundary, ala Astle, Oram, Voges etc that we've seen do it in the past... Not leaping from outside the boundary of the legitimate playing field.
