Sydney vs Melbourne

So I'm thinking of leaving London (finally) after 5 1/2 years. I've always said that I would move to Melbourne, but now I'm kinda thinking Sydney.

I have more friends in Melbourne but I could have better job prospects in Sydney. Which would be an easier transition after being in London for so long?

Havent lived in Lodon so cant speak from experience ... but Melbourne as a city and lifestyle just rocks! I have mates there, have been there twice and if I wasn´t in Auckland I´d almost certainly live there. Great public transportation, culture, and atmosphere.

I had the same dilemma when I left London. I couldn't decide for a while but in the end Sydney was always going to have the better jobs for me. I'm glad I ended up in Sydney, got a great job & I love the city.

as for which city is an easier transition, for me, Sydney is much closer to London than Melb.

I'm in the same boat...not for a couple of years but I have more contacts for work in Sydney (actually Canberra, but that's another story!).

But the crew in Melz were awesome when I was there in Dec. Not to emntion the cute widdle nieces and nephews of mine that make their home there.

I need another recon, I think.

I've not been to Melbourne but I'ved lived in Perth and would be happy to live there in a few years but don't know anyone there. So Sydney is the more likely option.

Does anyone living in London see themselves going back to NZ to live once they're done in the UK?

Greenie.... I am yet to visit Canberra so can't speak from experience. I've got an Italian friend who has recently moved to Sydney. He has now been to Canberra twice for work and sent me this text:

"How is that possible that place is the capital of this country, there is a little bit less than nothing over there except fields and a few more fields... I was hoping to see a kangaroo but... not even that".

I guess with a population of a bit more than 300,000 it's quite a lot different to Sydney!

I heard Mikey Robbins (Good News Week) say nobody goes to the loo in Canberra until after work so they have something to do at night.

I think I might go back to NZ... at least for a while... I think after London, I'll just want to chill out for a while... Sydney and Melbourne are still big cities (compared to anything in NZ anyway), and the pace of life will still be pretty fast... think I'll want to slooooooooooow down by the time I leave London

heh I could always freelance for a bit in NZ too before Melbourne. Never thought of that. It'd be fun for a few months. I could even do the 3 papers I need to finish my English Degree.

Agreed. I can get on a tram or train at peak hour here in Melbourne and not have to fight for air. Amazing! And people are nice. Oh my!
