Bio 1: Left Ctrl

LeftCtrl is a solo house music project of Konstantin Gredeskoul, a producer and a DJ from San Francisco, USA known for his down-tempo duo PolyGroovers and his punchy bass lines on the dancefloor. LeftCtrl recently performed live at FnF XII music festival in California, and is bringing his set down to NZ. His style ranges from funky house to punchy progessive grooves, but always with hypnotic rolling baselines and smooth hamornies. More info at http://www.leftctrl.com/

POLYGROOVERS - TWO FACES OF THE GROOVERS

PolyGroovers is an electronica / down-tempo duo, consisting of Konstantin Gredeskoul and Telene Johnston, a couple living and working in San Francisco. Both DJs with over five years of performing experience locally and internationally, Konstantin and Telene have been collaborating since 2001. Konstantin is the creative force behind the composition, arrangement and production of all songs, while Telene contributes vocals and a critical ear for what works and what doesn't. Starting 2006 PolyGroovers are collaborating with Maria Tumarkin - a published writer and a great friend. Maria is helping write lyrics for the third downtempo album, tentatively titled "Tips and Tricks".

PolyGroovers have been featured on SomaFM's Groove Saland since 2001 (although formerly known as PolyVinyl), performed live on KDVS (Davis) and KZSU (Stanford) radio stations, and have released two full albums of smooth down-tempo, lounge and organic grooves, with occasional vocal, instrumental and jazz elements.

AFFILIATIONS and OTHER PROJECTS

Konstantin of PolyGroovers additionally produces progressive and house as a solo project leftctrl. In addition Konstantin is involved with the house duo Soulaire (with DJ Kem).

Telene has past affiliations with Frequency 8 and Skills.

GROUP BIO

Konstantin was born in the Soviet Ukraine, where he spent his first eighteen years before moving to Australia. In 1997, Konstantin came to San Francisco where he met Telene - California native and a DJ with a solid name in the Bay Area progressive house and trance scene.

Passionate about music, the pair is continuously fascinated with the possibilities offered by modern software synthesis and composition tools. The duo's work is all about striving to create warmth, fluidity, and a smooth sound with their music, submerging their listeners into the deep atmosphere of hypnotic beats and jazzy harmonies.

MAX ALIEN (UK)

Alien Trax Profile

In amongst the clichéd snare rolls, monotone basslines and amyl nitrate charged vocals of hard house music, there lurk a few labels with a difference. Enter Max the Alien Thing and Paul Amino. Since 1996 they have been producing a constant stream of consistently groundbreaking, pumping, funky hard-house/trance. In 2000 they released "The Missing Files" the first ever Alien Trax album mixed by Max and Amino.

It all began in 1996 with seminal hard house release Alien/Chemical Imbalances. This, their first collaboration (and Alien Trax 01), was immediately jumped on, and subsequently caned, by such hard-house heavyweights as Pete Wardman and the late, great Tony De Vit.

Since then, Alien Trax has boasted releases by such underground stars as Karim, RR Fierce and Lab 4. Remix work has seen Paul and Max lending their talent to such names as Phantom, Brainbashers, Lab 4 and Captain Tinrib.

Now on their 30th release, exlusive on MP3, the aliens have many more in the pipeline. It also sees them cementing their position at the forefront of the new hard-house sound with offshoot label, Human Trax and 2XS Recordings.

With a studio move and upgrade early in the year, Alien/Human Trax's & 2XS already high level of quality and productivity has increased further, in turn attracting a host of both new and established talent to the label. This injection of ideas is helping to take the labels in new and exciting directions, and the coming months will see releases by many new artists.

There is certainly a lot to look forward to. Max's DJing continues to pioneer the hard-house and trance sound, with guest slots both abroad and at home, and with his residency at the legendary Fish! night. Alien Trax and Human Trax continue to go from strength to strength, with releases by such artists as DJ Simon Eve (fellow Fish! resident) and Alex James, Lee Jeffries & Justin Bourne and of course The Alien Thing himself. Most importantly, Max and Paul continue put out original and intelligent tracks, designed to devastate dancefloors everywhere.

Max The Alien Thing DJ Profile (MySpace)

Max, real name Barmak Hatamian, got his first real break on the DJ circuit at trance night Hybernation, held at club Heaven, London in 1997. Max has a list of residencies to his name including stints at The Fridge, Brixton Academy , Soundshaft and Turnmills.

Predominantly a London based DJ playing Hard House, Trance and Techno, Max has also completed tours of Japan , Australia , New Zealand , South Africa , Holland , Finland , Canada & USA . In Japan he played in Osaka , Sendai , and the world famous Liquid Room in Tokyo . He has completed 5 tours of Australia including the Millennium celebrations. He has returned every year with Captain Tinrib, playing huge festivals such as Advenjah & Enchanted Forest and playing at Australia 's most famous hard house club Hard Kandy. Other tours with Captain Tinrib has seen them playing in Japan , South Africa , Canada & the States.

Not content with mixing through the usual outlets, Max has also played on numerous internet radio stations, and other independent & major dance radio stations including, London (Interface & Tube FM), Toronto (1 Groove), San Francisco (Thump Radio), Sydney, Helsinki (Radio Helsinki) & Cape Town (Good Hope FM).

Any spare hours are filled with the task of running his record labels, Alien Trax, Human Trax and 2XS Recordings, which he co-owns with Amino (writer Paul Curtis ), and who, since 1996, have more than forty releases under their belt. Max & Amino write as partners as well as producing their own solo work and have completed work for labels such as Tinrib, Vicious Circle, Chug N Bump, DP, Split Screen and Shock Records. Max & Amino released their debut album "The Missing Files" on Alien Trax which will be followed by a double live pa album later on this year. Max has also teamed up with Dave Randall to bring fresh funky techno beats on their new label Powerkutz, which has three critically acclaimed releases so far.

Out in May 1999 Max Alien Trax mixed Extreme Clubbing Two. In October 2000, Max under one of his guises as The Alien Thing mixed Fish Tales Vol. 4 "Alien Lobster Abduction". Also out the same year was their debut album, mixed by Max & Amino, "The Missing Files".

Recent releases include collaboration with Captain Tinrib on Vicious Circle and releases on Elasticman as The alien Thing and collaboration with Lisa Storm as The Recyclists, including Nick Sentience & Ilogik remixes. Collabration with Slim Jim on Brain Damage Recordings called "Would U?".

No 3rd person for me on this one! I’m writing it! So, bio etc as they always have been all 100s of tracks and albums!! Last year collaborated on the Omega 3 - ‘Lost @ Sea’ album project which proved very successful and is well received with all the DJ folk round the round thing. Then there be the collabs with all the other folk you can find at www.tinribdigital.com!
I’ve always dabbled a lil bit DJing, just for fun, and mix up the harder end of Psy Trance when I do do it. Brain just can’t take ye same ol, same ol day in day out. There is other music out there. Loads of it!!! And yer sea dog’s into it!

Welcome to the Psy Skipper.... 1st mix was done in the port of Bournemouth, England back in 2005... ‘Full Nelsoned Vol.1’

Managed to record what I did in Aug 2008 at the helm here @ the wheelhouse - ‘Fully Cooked Vol.1’ and I’m very pleased with the outcome. Threw a couple of remixes I’ve been toying around at in the studio in there, including the now banned, Psy Skipper - ‘Smells Like a Pirate Spirit,’ and a new edition of one of my favourite Cure tracks, ‘A Forest.’ Also includes the kiwi remix by Psysquath vs Delicious of yer worthy ol scurvy dog classic Tinrib number ‘Coke - cos I lean to Cope.’

Photo from the mantle piece....

Our disco night Superfish! is and always has been a blend of genres of underground music and this event is gonna be a flow thru them including yours truly signing himself up as the ‘Psy Skipper’ DJing Psy Trance mid way through the proceedings.
