Hmmmmmm...Easter is Friday 10th April...we have Satoshi Tomiie and Nick Warren playing here that weekend...Summerset is the weekend after...possibility, but not really Sandwiches styles, eh?

It's fun starting rumours though! Laughing
[quote]
Nick Warren would be a big drawcard for the 25+ crowd though, and they've got the $$$. Didn't you do a warm-up set for him when he was in Welli last Insanity?

And Satoshi is a legend for Tears alone.
[quote]
Closing set actually...first ever closing for an international DJ and it had turned into my birthday as of midnight...deft not forgetting that in a hurry! Was so fucking nervous I completely screwed the first mix though! Crying or Very sad

Haha

And that was an Auckland promoter bringing him down, not something Sandwiches organised themselves...but yeah, he'd still be a possibility.

PS - Satoshi's Renaissance Masters Series 11 CD is wicked...very deep, very melodic, very listenable...no 'OMG sick!' stand out tracks, but as a whole album, very solid mix. One you'll be able to listen to for years without tiring of I reckon!
[quote]
stolen from another website!

Here's the full lineup:

Joining Fat Freddy’s Drop (NZ) on the SummerSet team are famed house DJ Nick Warren (UK), hip hop innovators and cricket aficionados The Nextmen (UK) with special guest MC P Digsss (NZ), drum and bass’s latest luminaries DJ Lynx and MC Kemo (UK), soul diva Hollie Smith with full band (NZ), electro house party DJ & remix king Bass Kleph (Aus), four piece popsters Charlie Ash (NZ) and audio genies Pitch Black (NZ).

SANDWICHES ANNOUNCE SUMMERSET 2009

Sandwiches is pleased to announce a stellar line up led by big hitter Fat Freddy’s Drop for Sandwiches Summerset 09 Day-Nighter at Wellington’s iconic Basin Reserve. For the third year running the hallowed cricket ground will resonate to a solid 12-hour innings where music is the new sport - mixing bona fide legends, established acts and newcomers from here and abroad - across two stages on Saturday 18th April.

Joining Fat Freddy’s Drop (NZ) on the SummerSet team are famed house DJ Nick Warren (UK), hip hop innovators and cricket aficionados The Nextmen (UK) with special guest MC P Digsss (NZ), drum n bass’s latest luminaries DJ Lynx and MC Kemo (UK), soul diva Hollie Smith with full band (NZ), electro house party DJ & remix king Bass Kleph (Aus), four piece popsters Charlie Ash (NZ) and audio genies Pitch Black (NZ).

Picking the headline act for the 2009 event Sandwiches selectors said they made a beeline for Freddy’s who’re on the cusp of releasing a new album Big BW - winning the band over with the offer of the Capital’s premiere outdoor music festival to shake that ‘shiverman loose’. Bryce Mason of SummerSet said, “Here and across the world the question on people’s lips is ’Fat Freddy’s Drop – is the album out yet?’ We’re extremely pleased to have Freddy’s performing in what is such an important and exciting time for them. It’s the perfect setting at the iconic Basin Reserve for the boys to bring their magic sound and success home and answer that question.” Rounding off the musical entertainment, a host of local DJ’s and emerging bands such as soulful blues band Whiskey & Sly will join the SummerSet team looking to hit the festival for six over the white cricket fence.

SummerSet is once again bringing a super top to the Basin but in 2009 it’ll be the massive ‘Heineken Super Top’ – the largest structure of its kind in New Zealand - ensuring the music plays rain or shine. It’s a truly global event in a positively Wellington setting - follow Kent Terrace Road to the Basin Reserve for Sandwiches SummerSet 09.

"Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best festivals in the Southern Hemisphere." Norman Jay, DJ at Sandwiches SummerSet 2008

“The Basin Reserve was the perfect venue for such an event, offering space and greenery for the masses to wander around in. There was the two pronged attack of the main stage at the Basins north end, and the swish looking Super-top to the south for people to get their musical hit from.” Darren, Texture Live Blog 2008

Had the traditional Fat Freddys vs Black Seeds pre Summerset 20/20 match down at the basin today. Fat Freddys batted first and put together a well-compiled 99 runs from their allotted 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process.

On a drying flat wicket, that wasn't too bad a score.

The Black Seeds came out all guns blazing led by Barnaby Weir putting on 20 runs without loss and the game was destined to be all over by 3pm. However, there was a wicket and then a tight run out call that had to be referred to the 3rd umpire. Classic stuff - there happened to be a TV3 cameraman filming the game from square leg and we went to him for the referral. Out - just - and FFD were back in the game.

Sensing an opportunity, FFD bought out Rich, their secret weapon who in his first over took 4 wickets, including a hat-trick, putting the FFD boys well in charge and TBS were teetering at 39/6 and 100 runs to win looking a long way off.

Then two of TBS boys put on a stunning lower order partnership and accompanied by some wayward bowling, all of a sudden only 12 runs were required for TBS to pull off an unlikely victory. A couple of wickets fell and it came down to 4 runs needed to in the match for TBS and FFD requiring only one wicket.

Dallas of FFD bought himself onto bowl (he can, he's the frontman) and bowled an excellent delivery, just short of a length; the batsman got a leading edge back to Dallas who caught the ball then bobbled it before finally claiming the catch putting TBC all out for an agonisingly-close 96 runs, handing the match to FFD by 3 runs.

Mu was gracious as winning captain, holding up the mini ashes trophy as though it was his proudest moment. Who could blame him? If both teams put on that kind of performance this weekend, we're in for one hell of a treat.

there should be some coverage on nightline (tv3 tonight and TVNZ should have something over the next couple of days so keep your eyes peeled, and we'll see you Saturday!
