My moms needs a new car - something AWD/4WD (not an SUV) with a bit of grunt (2l-2.5l).

Currently looking at a Forester or maybe a Legacy. Are there any other options for around 12-15k? I know the Legacys in this price range are supposed to be terribly uneconomical - anyone know if the same is true for the Forester?

Same motor isn't it? Got a mate that drives Forester with some mighty big wheels on it around the city for his job and says its not to bad.

I'll ask him for some figures on how much to fillup and how many km's he gets per tank.

This one looks good Smile

woteva happens, if you go subaru and opt for a legacy, please please please dont go for the tiptronic.

they are really quite shocking. Also look out for the turbo lag and the awful power streering which has no feel.

My advice either a stock standard impreza (not WRX, but SRX or similar, they do a good base model 2.0L AWD option with no turbo and you should even be able to version 7 upwards for that coin)

Forester, cool concept and the turbo one contains the same EJ20 as the WRX although de-tuned somewhat.

I think tho the S/Tb foresters are quite like my thieves so your premiums may reflect this)

Also check for the mitsi option, and what they hey even the toyota AWD option too.

best o luck Car

Yeah get a mazda sp20....
The amount of fat slobs ive seen driving around in beaten up foresters with big bore exhaust has tainted the subaru brand for me Sad

i hear lots of good things about the forester, can't think of any reason to avoid them. probably the perfect crossover vehicle.

i would imagine the economy is very similar to the legacy tho. i understand weights are pretty similar.

most fuel economy complaints i've heard are about the turbo versions...and well duh, what do people expect heh, otherwise i would describe it as 'average' as opposed to terrible. as an example two friends went on a roadtrip, one in turbo legacy wagon, the other in a turbo vr4 wagon.....the legacy was FAR better than the vr4, which seems to have a tiny tank to boot.

i dunno i'm rambling off the top of my head. get her to drive the forester and a legacy, see which she likes best, there's really not much seperating them apart from load capacity - the forester is far more spacious and practical.
