Weird, I just finished listening to a Justice dj set,
and they played "My Sherona" and then into a song by The Who. Confused
This tops my list of odd tunes in a house set.
(Although, I dont know if you could call Justice house?)
What are the weirdest tunes you guys have heard in a house set?
[quote]
Altho not quite on that level these were very different from the norm..

Derrick Carter playing the theme song from Fame (overtop of Daft Punk 'Burning')

Danny Howells playing Bob Marley 'Could You Be Loved' (at his Centro gig)

no such thing as a weird song in a house set IMHO, there are inappropriate songs - thats a taste thing

heard some munter play some AC/DC at ink once, it was wicked good!

I was impressed in Detroit last year when Justin Long played 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' in homage to Detroit (rather than going for Strings of Life or similar which so many others did).

Maybe, but they then slammed in Stardust and into
Bassment Jaxx "Wheres your head at", and it worked damm it!

DJ Falcon dropping Rage aganst the machine "Fuck u I won't do what you tell me". Mid set of a peaktime house set. That was weird. But everyone seemed to love it!

Should be worth checking him out this Friday too

It's about the only thing that would work after backing yourself into a corner with "My Sherona" & The Who. You don't leave yourself much to play with on the house spectrum except for the likes of Basement Jaxx, Stardust, Groove Armada, Superman Lovers, etc.

French DJs have previous when it comes to dropping left-field tunes which tread delicately across the credibility line.

Possibly the most brilliantly random tune I've heard in a house set is Bob Sinclar playing Lumidee "(I'll Never Leave You) Uh Oh". Mind you, he did mix it in on the half-tempo Africanism "Clap Your Hands".

For all the rubbish he's churned out in the last 5 years he earned a gold star from me for that moment.

I have to agree, I downloaded a recent set of his and it's the biggest pile of arse Ive heard in a long time. It's this crappy psuedo prog trance house blend that sounds like a night a Gatecrasher from 7 years ago, and its full of "whooshing" noises on every stupid breaksdown. Blurrgh.
Is that what people are passing off as house now?
God I hope not.

Yeah saw him live a bit over a year ago and it was the biggest let down....and I wasn't expecting that much in the first place...utter dribble.

Embarassed

LeKnight, have you got a link to this set?

I found it on the pirate bay. I just searched Bob Sinclair, or maybe french dj?
It sent me to dirtyplanet.org.
Its really not worth it man.

I forgot.. At his Auckland gig in 99(ish) Dimitri From Paris played an old DMC megamix of disco/house tunes which was well wicked. It had about a dozen or so tunes in ten mins. It was within genre but was still very cool.

Next level weirdness from dop in their Ibiza voice podcast

http://www.ibiza-voice.com/music/podcast/dOP

Includes the three little pigs and the blues brothers classic 'rawhide'...

Admittedly you can get away with this kind of thing in a podcast, a club set is a much tougher proposition.
