Stoners in apartments

How do you manage?

Was pondering this after smelling it several times coming from a ground floor balcony at the bottom of Mayoral Drive. These guys are asking for trouble, Im sure Im not the only one thats noticing. But whats the solution?

Any sort of indoors smoking in living areas is pretty vile, but even if you did this it would soon waft into the hallways stinking out the whole corridor and causing the building manager and tenants to fk up your shit! So thats not an option

If you smoke on your balcony the pungent smell invades the apartments of the people directly above you and some of those beside you too (depending on wind etc) Same result as above

So that leaves trooping outdoors, buts thats a mission, plus its cold. Its wet. And the pavement of the CBD aint no place to conspiciously light up anyway. Plus afterwards youve got to head back into your building.... thefore annoncing your stoner status to anyone who happens gets caught in the lift with you

So how do you do it? Just light up and FTW

I just smoke on the balcony and have never had any complaints from the people above or below.

In my last apartment, there was a family above us with a baby. So if i ever heard them up there i'd just go around to the other side of the apartment and use the balcony there (it wrapped around two sides of the apartment). I hardly ever smoke anymore, but back in this last apartment i was smoking at least once every two days.


I'd say some people use vaporizers thought as a means of smoking inside.

spliffs - mix the smell to create confusion.... 100% of which is confined to the smoker (awesome headfuck)

I smoke on the balcony, fortunately am almost the top floor of the building so don't stress them above me smelling it - winter is an added bonus as non smokers tend not to go onto their balconys at all hours

I went from casual, to everyday.. for about 2 years.. have now stopped during the week.

I'm daily normally and have been for, um, over 30 years - currently haven't had any for 3 weeks, the longest break ever

I'm about 2-3 times a week these days. Was daily for about a year up until a couple months back but also been trying to cut it out from weekdays recently..

Spliffs, like BD said. They seem to be more and more commonplace nowadays. Dont understand those sick fucks who mix in a pipe or bong though.

...and Davil, I smoke as often as I can (usually every night), but only at night, as it's when I write mostly or jam out. Something about it during the day that just writes me off and I cant do anything.

i stopped daily after hearing about my friends dad (who we actually mentioned in another thread bob ) who has major lung and head problems now from smoking it everyday for 20ish years...

after that i did some research... don't think smoking every day is good. But apart from that, it makes me dumb and unmotivated when i have it everyday.

Oh to answer the question, I tend to try limit during the week or during the day on weekends, unless I'm already doing something mind numbing.. Generally I don't have very much.

I can easily go days without thinking about it.. but probably after 3 it pops into my head.

Vape will solve this issue though - no lung effects for vaping.

I think this and kris's POV is fine, but personally I dont mind going a bit out of way to minimise declaring that I have been smoking. (gum, clear eyes, normally walk about a bit before heading indoors)

I guess it stems from a couple of relationships with girls that didnt like me smoking, so I either just smoked while they werent around, or did it discreetly (with varying levels of success I might add)

FTW is a good attitude I suppose, buit its not for everyone.....but for example.....I like smoking before I hit the pool, but since Im a regular at the muncipals..... its also a bit pof a social thing for me. Id just prefer it if those people didnt relaise I was blazed *shrug* I feel the same way about my neighbours

and just to underline the point again, if a girl knows u smoke pot smoke theres a really good chance it will affect her perception of you as a potential mate, rightly or wrongly due to weeds slacker associations etc

Yeah this big time! but then when you are smoking everday.. you kind of get in a little bubble and it starts feeling normal. But then when you stop (haven't had any for about 3 weeks now)... you remember the benefits of feeling clear headed and non-sluggish!

This only seems to happen to me when I smoke during the daytime, at night it effects me completely differently.
I get an energy boost and get super creative/jamotive.

Theres no doubt smoking everyday/too much has negative and demotivating effects. Just the right amount helps me function better. I could just be fooling myself about that though

Yeah this. Im not a layabout stoner. I get all fidgety and prefer to be doing something even it its just somethning mundane like housework/tidying up

I'd agree to this - though partly its why you're smoking - if its to avoid emotional crap... you're not doing yourself any favours (though for short term numb it can be useful)

if its to relax and enjoy certain social settings and interactions... depending on consumption (I tend to be a heavy user) you do suffer some negative effects for sure but you can manage them if its not an emotional crutch

saying that like booze as you get older you don't cope as well - don't spring back after a big session (booze or weed) as you did when a lot younger - partly due to physical stuff but also mentally

you're also grumpier... more likely to be routine driven and upset if anything upsets that routine and be adverse to anything to do with youth, clouds and progress....

in short - you've got to manage consumption and yourself and never use silly excuses to try and explain away the very real effects of long term drug use/abuse

Also, i love swimming after a smoke! in summer time auckland, i used to always go for a swim at home after a smoke... so relaxing.

I used to get cained before I went for a paddle, but gave it up as after my first duck dive I would straighten out (esp in winter). Bit of a waste really.

I'm actually used to that now.. it isn't so bad anymore.

We are very similar weed smokers. I try to only smoke at night now, if I do it during the day I can pretty muvch wipe out a days worth of motivation to do anything other than actively listen to music/watch movies/play games. If I do it at night however, I usually get a big energy boost and I enjoy doing stuff. Dunno how scientific that is or if it's just my perception but for that reason I limit my daytime use. Other than that, I pretty much smoke every day or every other day. It's a nice way to round off a day.

BTW worrying about how others perceive you being stoned = weed induced paranoia imo.

And whisky and weed combo is the BEST! Insta mood lift and relaxation after a stressful day. :>

yes.. these are some of the main concerns i had with smoking everyday.

. I was with a guy who smoked everyday at first I didn't care.. then after 5 years it was kinda like errrrrrr .. Idont thinkany of you guys would be as hooked as he was though and if you are then I that sux ..as that was some serious badness.

Memory loss yeah...but Ive been forgetful my whole life. Always got told off as a kid for forgetting/losing stuff. Not worried about the other thing with weed, harder stuff that I dont take anymore...... definetly. Only thing I really worry about is lung damage

Re: day vs night. For sure. If I smoke at say ....midday, Ill tend to reload 4-5 more times with dimenisuing effect. I'll also eat like a fat bastard

However if I save it till 5-6 at night, one draw on te bong or a coule of a doobie and Im fine for the day. Dont really consider that being a stoner. Hardly worse than knocking back a beer or two

I worry about a lot of things. Maybe I should cut back, and I probably will as I get older and more distracted with life, or maybe I won't. Who knows. When it comes to my weed use, I'm more concerned with the short term effects, like not smoking during the day to increase my productivity or not smoking before I go out so my conversational ability is better (I tend to be a little insular if I'm stoned in a social situation), these are things that I know I can influence and change by my self control. Whether or not I develop weed psychosis or memory loss is not entirely 100% proven from memory (but that's more to do with the lack of government or NGO research into long term use and yes, pun fully intended :> and to be frank, I struggle to care about something so far away anyway.

I did a period where I would only smoke on the weekend but then I would find I'd have a beer/whisky/wine or 2 when I got home in the evening from work instead and that opens up that whole other debate about which is worse.

Everybody is different, some people can manage a daily habit with no effect o n their lives, and some can't. You just gotta judge each person on their own situation ya dig?

If it starts coming at the expense of your relationship/family/work then you gotta start asking questions.

I have a pretty good memory, always have. I can recall some crazy details from very early in my life, I can recall a song from just a couple of notes, I can remember details about what I did while going out with my friends a decade ago, or who played where in the Warriors reserve grade side of '96. And that's with smoking weed since I was 16. So I'm not *too* concerned about it to be honest.

The real mind blowing question is whether it would have been even better if I hadn't touched the stuff, that's what gets me wondering heh.

Nah, I know plenty of old fullas who have been smoking weed their whole lives with no effects so I don't think it is a given. I think it is more of a risk if you have other mental health issues then it can maybe compound that. I've never had any real issues in that regard but I do know someone who had to quit because when he smoked his mind would go into weird places and it was having a real detrimental effect on his state of mind.

That's all just my opinion based on anecdotes btw.

Does anyone else here sometimes get a really intense burning/itchy feeling in their throat after having a smoke? i get it occasionally, if i don't drink water it gets so bad my eyes start watering. Really got to get around to buying a vapo.

You mean other than the chronic cough? Nah man. It's normal to have the drys after a smoke though, it is after all the by product of fire.

I don't really cough at all... it's just the harsh burning sensation, it goes away straight after drinking water.

Used to smoke a lot. Pretty much right through high-school, uni and into my mid-20s.. Pretty much every single day or close to it.

Happy to say I've kicked the habit now. Didn't really happen deliberately either. Somehow along with some other positive life changes I now find myself as a non (pot) smoker, and co-incidence or not life is better now. I don't miss it at all during the week etc

Looking back I wasn't really a great fit for it. Definitely made me demotivated me/less productive, introverted/insecure rather than social etc. Quit sports, missed out on girls, failed to make the most of uni.. all the usual regrettable cliches.. fuck I heard some great music though.

Only time I'll accept a puff now is when i'm heavily on the booze or other stuff!

As an adult I just don't really enjoy it that much. Never got paranoid or too overly introspective when I was young, but I find these days, unless I'm with tight friends, I can get all a bit quiet and weird ... kinda like the opposite of how I normally am I guess.

But agree a few times a week is prob optimal, plus as stated earl;ier in the thread..the later in the day you have a toot the better. Im pretty happy with a toke or two around 6-7pm. Since im pratically booze-free and dont take any of te other stuff, I feel zero guilt even if I do happen to smoke daily for a week or so.

Vapourisers are awesome, picked one up when I stopped smoking ciggies so I could still get high without actually smoking something cigarette like...it's a little odd initially, you just taste a sweetness but not much in the way of visable smoker/vapour (unless you really crank the machine up to full) and it kinda doesn't feel like it's doing much...but take super deep looooong lungful's and hold it...hold it...hold it...3 or 4 of those and 5 mins later, wowsers, super blazed, but totally different blazed feeling, so clean and floaty, no deep harsh stone, no sleepy oxygen dep...they're killer!

Its kinda weird how smoking comes and goes. I had a 3-4 period in the early 30s where I barely touched pot, but of course at that time I was working in corporate sales, hitting the booze all week and other stuff once a month at a time. shrug. Preferred poisons/lifestyles etc
