The interesting thing for me about this series as this is surely the 1st time Queensland has such a clearly superior squad and outright favourtism, in the past NSW have been anything from overwhelming to slight favourites...... partly due to the Sydney media tending to put certain NSW players on pedestals they dont quite deserve, when their Qland opposites have generally been pretty similair quality players

This has led to to massive Queensland circle jerking when they win games ......that the victory is down to "The passion and pride of Queenslanders" which is clearly bullshit. If they win this year with such a clearly superior sqaud...what will they put the victory down to? What if NSW win? See what I mean? Queenslanders have kind of put themselves in this "fighting vs the odds" hero category and may not have a clue how to play as favourites

Years ago on here I jabbered on about the warriors signing Luke ODonnell and lately he has been showing that when fit he is the best 2nd rower in the NRL. Im backing him to put some serious smack down on Qland forwards. Farrah has been good for the Tigers too.

It comes from always being the underdog. Something you may not be familiar with coming into Origin in the 80's when Queensland dominated. Before that though, before Queensland players who played in the flashier NSWRL comp were allowed to come back and play for the Maroon jumper, before they settled on the "Origin" rules, a Queensland victory was as rare as fuck. Remember there wasn't even a Queensland team in the best league competition in Australia until '88!

This has created a mystique around the jersey. Not unlike what the All Blacks have. Sure other countries are proud of their jerseys but it doesn't have the same mystique.

I too remember watching league in the 80's btw. My first memory was of the '85 win against the Aussies and celebrating it with my Dad. But yes I lived in SEQ in the late 80's, early 90's and I got into Origin then, and loved the Queensland team and their players because they were so good. Obviously I was a kiwi at heart and my allegiance will always go that way but I'm a league purist. Ultimately for me I love the game above allegiances and the best league you'll ever see is sadly not International, it's the state of o. I love it! And the fact that people choose sides makes it ever so sweeter. So yes, I'm gonna bag on some NSW cunts because it's fun. And yes I'm gonna enjoy it so much more when those NSW cunts cry cause their team has lost the last 3 series and is looking all likely to lose a record 4th.

Hmmmmmmmmm... Interesting half of footy. Terrible Rugby League officiating continues - for both sides I must say. Several dubious or curious calls. Is the game getting too fast for these guys to officiate properly? Even with 2 refs?

Dodgy penalty goes to the blues for Slater's 'rip'. Dodgy penalty towards the end of the half for playing the ball whilst not tackled too. Definitely thought BoD should have gone to Hayne for the first try, but clear forward pass over the try line results in NSW's only try. Thought the first penalty to get QLD up the Blues' end of the paddock was ridiculous as well.

Anyway..

Huge half from Civoneceva in attack, Smith in defence. Great pace from the QLD backline all round really. Definitely seem a bit more intense. NSW playing well up the middle of the ruck and down the left flank, but clearly a bit out muscled in most areas.

Second half better than the first I thought. With the tiring defenses there were more openings and more desperation from both teams. NSW gathered some good momentum with the addition of Wing- can't believe Bellamy waited so long to introduce him, and the took Farrah off as the sub. They should both have been on from about the 50 min mark.

Anyway QLD far too strong, professional and experienced for NSW tonight. Thought 10 points was probably fair given NSW didn't really get close. Had to laugh at Slater's QLD 'heart' comment afterwards though.

Yeah cos it was the 'heart' that won them the game. Of course the talent, size, strength, professionalism, defense, kicking game and speed out wide had nothing to do with it. It was all heart.

Anyway great game (obviously ), but also good to see NSW not give up and give it a damn good try in the last half of the second half. Hayne in particular is one to watch in the Origin future. Clearly he was on the line with that try and was rightly denied for it, but SMF's BoD call is right, we actually talked about it and said if the TMO put it to refs call, he surely would have blown it a try on BoD.

I thought when NSW were looking their worst (i.e. letting QLD players shoot right thru them for a try) they looked just how the Warriors look on a bad day, and that's what let them down. The NSW team don't have the finishers that Queensland does - they can compete for most of the time but they just can't score when they get 5-10m out.

Well, you would have to question why NSW didn't get to some of the loose balls. There wasn't the same level of committment shown. That could be described somewhat as "heart".
