Market rates or not, every state house which is rented to a person who actually owns a home elsewhere is one more person/family which can't get a state house.

What are state houses for and what drugs is Housing Minister Maryan Street taking?

this years elections are so so tired... did all the parties buy political campaigning in NZ in the late 70's manuals and pass them round their members?

national lift ya game

herald sort ya shit out

labour after 3 terms its pretty sad/pathetic/lazy to continue to blame shit on the previous national regimes... be it accurate to or not

awaits some national gaff where they propose to sell off all state owned houses and then a few days later do a turn around cause it wasn't a popular move

: yawn :

On the issue Bob. State houses - what are they for? Who should be eligible?

People who own houses should be excluded. There are only so many houses available and is a large waiting list.

the issue isn't state houses its politicing

AAs for state houses - they should be for those whom need housing who can't afford market rents or crippling mortgages - that is them at the bum end of the food chain, not home owners, not people with good steady jobs etc.

Why is national bringing this issue up -surely their outlook is the state shouldn't be supplying or owning houses full stop - if there is a need the market will fill it or some such clap trap

what other national laid time bombs shall we see them try and take labour to task for?

again : yawn :

'sustainability' was the last big buzz word but that proved as unpopular as 10 cent rises at the petrol pumps will to pay for our roads that nobody will soon be able to afford to drive upon

edging ever closer to $2 at the pumps oi

If national hadn't ghettoised state houses by concentrating them - rather than as was originally intended, which was to pepper them across an entire town so rich/poor lived cheek by jowl - we wouldn't have any problems.

do our politicians really even know the principles they are supposed to stand for?

Believe it or not, most of us don't want to live next to poor people.

if as vadinho says the national average wage is 38k most of us are poor

and then if there are a whole lot of people paying more than 50% of their wage on their mortgage

every two of three people are poor
