Kiwi halfback of the century Stacey Jones will play for the Warriors next season.

Three years after ending his record 238-game career at Mt Smart Stadium, the 32-year-old today revealed he has signed a one-year contract to resume his playing ties with the club.

Jones said an approach by Warriors coach Ivan Cleary and a taste of top-level football with the All Golds last month had rekindled his desire to again play for the Vodafone Warriors.

Thoughts?

We have a LOGJAM of halves now.

If we have it like this:

6 Moon
7 Jones
9 Henderson
14 Fien

That leaves Witt, Foran, and Hohaia out of the team entirely.

(Yes, I do realise I left out Rovelli).

My comments from the thread I started.

If it's as successful as Alfie's comeback for the Broncs then it's gonna be a hell of a year!

Gotta feel sorry for all those fullas they signed up to have a go in the halves though. When Ivan said he wanted to create depth in the position, he wasn't kidding around!

And mine, a mod can delete those other threads if they so desire...

I shouldn't have paused halfway through posting to answer an email. Laughing

Not to worried about Witt not being in the team. His kicking was his big draw card, Stacey can fill those shoes. Just wondering if he can keep up with the pace ...

Denan Kemp is also apparently an accomplished Goal Kicker.

And for long range kicking game Moon has a large if slightly inaccurate boot on him.

Having a backup Hooker that can play Halve will provide dividends should Stacey tire in games.

But maybe the year off has revitalised him, he is not actually much older than Lockyer or Kimmorley.

Yeah, but thats why I think its great he's made the decision to sign up now, he'll have the whole of the pre season training regime to get match fit again now.

And as much as the young fullas will be fuming, they will learn a hell of a lot playing and training alongside him. I know he's already been on board for the last couple of years as an assistant coach but Stace has always been a leader by example than someone who likes to talk.

So excited!! Maybe we'll see a return to the 2002 halves pairing of Jones and Hohaia? Given the form Lance has shown, I can't see him being left out of the team...

Well that's the key problem is what to do with all that talent in the key areas.

1, 7, and 9 are locked down with Wade, Ian, and Stacey.

So that leave 6 and 14 to fight over. Moon was signed to be a running 6 and that leaves Witt in the cold. 14 will be an all in brawl between Fien, Hohaia, Foran, and Rovelli. I think it will come down to between Fien and Hohaia, with Hohaia having the slight edge as the player that is staying after 09.

I wonder how much of the cap ol' Stacey is pulling.

TBH I think Hohaia has the edge over Moon. Joel Moon is a kid with a lot of potential talent but he's not quite there yet. Lance is on form at the moment...

Foran will be left in reserve grade to work on his game I think, he is another player who is still maturing...

Wow, The Lil General returns!

Must say I thought he was well off the pace in the All golds game, but as Dalai mentioned, I think he just needs some top level conditioning/game time and he'll be okay. Having his direction and kicking game, not to mention his Mana, back at the club is going to be hugeSmile

Time to discard Rovelli imo.
