.... massif massif props to the promoter of the gig ... one of the better festivals i had been to in years ... all ya needed was ya tent and ya wheels and wihee! good weegend is ON ya'll!
it was one of the best weekends I had in a long long time .... the site was huge this year! three seperate areas - the main stage, village stage and dance zone : the only issue i had was that sitting at one of them meant you could hear all of the stages so while Zuvuya kicked ass on the main stage we had thumping bass from the dance zone and the village stage had some crazy reggae choons goin too
all in all the stage performances I was most impressed with were :
Zuvuya - nice wee set aided by Imon Starr - first time i had ever heard this Dunedin band and they rock!!!
Trinity Roots - BAD ASSS!! such a tight set from these guys - the Hemopo clan got the jam sesh in full swing and the crowd was most appreciative!
Fat Freddys Drop - BO BO BO! Dallas had the girlies just swooning all the way through the set - his vocals were down right full of sex in their Midnight Marauders open - the group sounds magic!
Black Seeds - MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE - I heard them last year and this year they were even BETTER! Those guys played the tightest set out ... goddamn I was shocked to hear how slick they sounded - touring the country has definitely made their live sound more refreshing, more funkier - hell I got my Groove Thang Onnnnn!!! Nuff Said!
Katchafire - nicely surprised by this well oiled engine they call Katchafire - with the huge number of performers on stage I expected a nice wee reggae set - instead we got a full live spectrum of reggae roots and funk ... fucken nice slick set - lovely riddims ... quite impressed as it was my first time seeing them live
.... so i swung back to auckland sometime on sunday afternoon after getting crispy black in the sun ... holy hell ... best damn weekend i had in ages!
now that I am back to reality in my office and sitting here "working", i keep thinking "i want to go back to raglan already!"
hahaha
You guys missed the wickedest festival!!! so glad i went!
