I have a bit of a problem with divx'x - the sound is so damn quiet - to the point that when im watching a movie and its gets to a quiet suspensful bit and something causes a normal computer noise i nearly jump out of my seat.

Ive tried everything i can think of in device settings etc - could it be a codec problem?

whats a good sound codec or general codec pack?

Use Gordion Knot...

I also normalize my mp3s with BeSweet aswelll as I get really sick of music and dialog being heaps different in movies Neutral

its the fact that people are now encoding with AC3 sound ... and when you play back your only playing it in stereo .. so certain levels are cancelling each other out .. and some channels are quite because its spose to be playing 4 chans at once to make one sound...

Codec packs I find usually fuck things up all together .. how ever I found a good one that I use klmcodec100.exe ..

try this ... its about 16 meg .. but DONT install there crap media player .. just whore up the codecs Smile ...

yea i get that problem sometimes to, its not your playback its just the way the audio was encoded which is why i now encode in either wma or fraunhueffer(sp) mp3 format at around 192k. im yet to find a decent free ac3 codec i can encode with? anyone got any links?

I always use Gordian Knot to encode to VBR mp3, and i've never had a problem. One DVD only had dts sound, and GK didn't seem to like that.
