sound cards for music production...

would put this in the producers forum, buts it a desert in there, please be giving some good soud card options for the afore mentioned. Getting a pc built and will prob spend most of my budget on this component. Thanks.

if your budget is low, then I'll sell you a SB audigy (which is a resonable budget card) for a nicely cooked steak

Yeah the Audigy is good for an intro card 24/96 and all that. Im not too sure on what you need regarding ins and outs, but Id be inclined to get something external usb or firewire.
There's tons out there now, do you need multi in's/out's?
Do you need external control ie midi/vsti's etc?
How much do you want to spend?

spend about 300 on the card alone.
have firewire.
external controls are all usb.
not worried about multi outs, just good quality outs to the monitoring system.
i dont use alot of hardware, more VSTi inclined. This pc will be purely for music production, nothing else.

Im still using a set up thats around five years old, so Ive kinda lost track of whats available.
But I know my sys in and out, so I aint fixing nothing that aint broke. (well I would like a new I/O device, with a decent channel strip.)

I would need to do some research at that price level - but I almost think, if you don't really need 'features' and just need better quality, save your pennies, and wait till you can jump in a little higher. Spend the money on silent fans for the computer.

Also, what Speakers are you using?
