so which is the best broadband plan?

out of all the companies, which plan or deal is the best one on offer at the end of the day...


im thinking about signing up for 256k flat rate braodband $69.95 a month.

to me it seems like the best one, but am i missing something?

Sign up Jetstream through Telecom but DO NOT get the Jetstream account through Xtra as they charge you an extra $27.95 for the account set-up. Go with someone like ihug instead, where there is no setup fee and $10 a month for the account.

thats what i have at the moment but im pretty sure it will be crap when telecom actually starts capping it when you go over your 10GB
i still think the 128k jetstream starter is the best "broadband" plan for me though with the usage i go through each month

I was under the impression it was $69.95 for the Jetstream access, and then whatever extra you pay for the account (which you are going to need to get online). If you get that account through Xtra, it includes a $27.95 join-up fee. If you get this account through ihug, it's free to sign up.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago from Nova about this.

As long as you make phonecalls on your Telecom phoneline you can sign up for $69.95, rather than through an alternate provider like TelstraClear/Compass/CallPlus.

Woosh will always have latency issues.

yea if you have your phone through Telecom and you use xtra, it is $59.95 month to telecom and $10 month to xtra
If you have another isp with telecom phone it is $69.95 month to Telecom and $10 month to your isp.

ihug is really good, they have cheap phone rates and if you add their phone with their 256k then its $69.95 month there as well

Woosh is shit, had it, got rid of it, back with JetStream now. If you can put up with your connection disconnecting once an hour, bad latency, and variable connection speeds then go for it.

Sam, my advice would be the 256k all you can eat plan. It's 69.95 if you're with Xtra and Telecom for your calling. Bout the same with other ISPs just an extra $10 if you make your calls throw Ihug, ot Call Plus or someonelse.

JetStream Starter is slower, but good if you download lots locally (local traffic is generally free), if not then the 256 JetStream plan beats it hands down.

Yes. We pay approximately 70 for flat rate.

Flat rate is good if you use a lot of bandwidth. If you just want it fast and use less then 1GB get the faster plan - it really is a lot faster for downloads - but for web surfing it doesn't make a lot of difference.

If you manage to hit your 10GB cap the speed is lowered to 64kbps, with no hard cap AFAIK.
