Something most tech geeks are interested in no doubt..

Do you own one of these? If so what is it and what functions do you use it for? What tricks do you do with syncing devices etc

I own a Nokia 6600. I've only just configured it for GPRS and got myself a bluetooth adapter, so not too much trickery going on yet but that's set to change Wink

Also who has tried the Imate Smartphones running the windows OS?

I have a t610 and bluetooth adaptor and played around with winamp remote controls for it for my set top box but then did a reinstall and havent got round to doing it again. I do use the sync with outlook to back up my phone numbers and calander events and if you get really desperate you can run internet through the gprs for a laptop without worrying about loosing los for the ir especially like my one where the port is at the front of the lappie. Also it doesnt cut you off when you get a call.

Ive got an HP Pocket PC but its a bit of a pain and i prefer to use a laptop or my phone. Theres some pretty cool smart phones coming out but i think id wait for a while before i even thought about spending money on a combined one, till the price comes down and they sort out the technology.

I have both the Smartphone2 and Imate PocketPC sitting in front of me at the moment. They're "alright". I prefer the Smartphone as an all in one unit.. it seems to intergrate the phone and pda side of things a hell of a lot better... and (IMO) looks a little better, my only beef with it is that you can't use the MP3's as a ringtone

I like nice small phones, not the ones with combined PDAs. I had a Palm for years, and i'll buy another one as soon as the new models are release in a couple of weeks.

I ventured over to the PocketPC camp briefly, but it was a disaster. After using Palm for so long, I just found that I didn't like the iPaq. It was an expensive less - it cost $850 and I can't return it. If anyone's looking for a cheap iPaq 4350/4355 that's in perfect condition look in the buy and sell forum. If you like the Pocket PC, you'll love this PDA, it has a keyboard and all. If it could run Palm OS i'd have kept it in a second.

Yeah, personally I've always preferred PalmOS, its less clunky, runs a wee bit faster, and I find Graffiti more responsive than the PocketPC writing recognition.

Psion Symbian has come a long way since the days of the Psion 5mx etc. but still has plenty of issues on the likes of Nokia 6600 and SonyEricsson p800/900. The best Symbian phone I've come across is the Siemens SX-1 and piece of utter performance... but you'd expect that knowing that Siemens done pretty much ALL the legwork on the Series 60 platform only to have Nokia get their handsets with it in use first.. although they should have waited as the 3650 etc were utter dogs!!!!

Be interesting to se how the Series 80 system runs on the Nokia 9500 Communicator

Microsoft Mobile Edition 2003 seems alright.. I've only been using the Smartphone for a couple of days and haven't found too many large problems yet... I'm even surprised the battery life is pretty good!!

I found Windows Mobile slower and less responsive than similar PalmOS hardware, and I didn't like having to close each app - on palm it saves and closes automatically. It's not like you have different apps open in different windows.

PocketPC or Mobile 03??? Ipaqs run PocketPC, SmartPhone and Imate run Mobile03

I dunno what the OS is called, they keep changing it. I have the latest iPaq 4350, so I guess it's PocketPC 2003 professional.

I had a brief go on the Smartphone2 and the major beefs I had were:

-Boot time was just silly. Almost as long to boot as my old Nokia 9210.

-No matter what I did, I couldn't login to MSN, which is built in.

-Navigation wasn't that intuitive.

Of course, this was having a play at about 5am drunk as a skunk...
