Slow connection time...

Using Win ME (don't blame me I've got XP pro at home) connecting to Jetstart (128kps) on a 1.1ghz, plenty of RAM, I.E.6, Alcatel DSL modem. From "detect proxy settings" to loading the homepage is like 40-60 seconds...

No spyware or viruses as far as I can find...

Is this an ADSL issue with Alcatel???

Try unticking automatically detect and set all the settings manually see if that speeds it up.

umm yea i reckon try setting them manually so it doesnt try to set them every time you access the net.
is it an adsl modem or router?

God knows, I told him to styop being a tight arse and buy XP.

i dont think your operating system will actually have anything to do with how fast you can connect to the internet.

Maybe your dns settings are wrong and its taking ages for a request to be processed?

Maybe you have a faulty line ? Ask your isp to test it out ?
Drop into dos
and run a ping maybe, post it back here
