...as a poor mans way to get HD Sky at home. Now my monitor doesn't have speakers so it isn't just a simple hookup. Is there such a thing as a HDMI cable with sound cables attached? ie HDMI to HDMI + RCA?

Or would the option of getting a TV Tuner Card and getting busted old SD sky and plugging through that be more realistic?

Use the audio from the RCA out on the sky box for audio and the HDMI for the video ...assuming it has that in addition to HDMI out?

Your monitor would have some sort of audio out, that you could hook up to a stereo or external speakers surely?

But to answer your question, no.. you can't get HDMI + RCA.

Bit confusing.. do you have a decoder?

You won't be able to get a tuner card that'll do digital.. if that helps your decision.

A HDMI to DVI cable should do the trick (from decoder to monitor) along with an RCA - 3.5mm Mic Jack to go from the decoder to the sound card line-in. Even better if your sound card has digital in, then you can get an optical cable from the decoder to the sound card...which should give you the best sound and video you can get.

No such thing as HDMI to HDMI + RCA afaik, as one is analogue and the other digital (ie you need a DAC chip to change the signal- it'd be like having a sound card in the cable).

Unless of course, by poor mans sky you mean you don't have a decoder in which case you'll be looking for a tuner card with a BT848 chipset for sky UHF

You probably wanna check with someone with HD Sky but I suspect your decoder might output RCA Sound as well as HDMI Video, much like a PS3 does.

And yeah you can buy a HDMI -> DVI plug too if you need one.

Or speaker out on the monitor is often an option if it has HDMI in.

I don't actually have a decoder right now but will eventually. Does a Sky decoder even have RCA output?

It's all in the planning right now, and I need to know if I need to get a new tv (can't be bothered fully explaining the situ but I will need a new tv) or if I can run straight into my computer/monitor.

My monitor doesn't carry sound but I have some deace 5.1 PC Speakers hence the RCA question.

Fuck some of you make things 100 times more complex than they need to be Razz

Step 1: What inputs does the 5.1 system have? At a guess, being a PC system, optical, coax digital, 3.5mm and maybe RCA.

Step 2: MySky box has at least optical out, so you would use that.

Worst case, you use RCA out (which I'm 99% sure it has) and get a cable like this to connect to 3.5mm:

Separate audio outputs are going to be with us for a long while yet, just because HDMI is here doesn't mean things are all fucked up.

*Christ* no. Just no.

By some Logitech z5500's for your computer. Supports coax and optical, along with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding.
Just use the direct input for the computer, switch to optical/coax for your Sky HD.

PC Speakers have a 3.5mm input but I have an adapter for RCA.

Basically it sounds like I need to have a look at the Mysky box and I'll figure out the rest from there. Razz
