A few of us are stopping for a night in Singapore on the way over to London. I hear this is the place to buy your cellphone, laptop etc.... because of the great low prices.

Has anyone been shopping in singapore to back this up?

FANTASTIC - CHEAP as electronics and brand new on the market stuff (like you wont see it elsewhere for 6 months type of thing!)

theres a 5 ish storey place to buy electronics... ask a tour bus driver i cant remember the name

Yeah, Singapore is the place. There are huge shopping malls that specialise in just electronics! Being European will influence prices however, as soon as you walk in the door they size you up for how much they think you are willing to pay. I usually outsource my big purchases to locals who can haggle the price down. I'm sure Orchard Road must be the most impressive shopping stip in the world.

When are you coming through Singapore Baynesy?

I bought a 2.0MP canon IXUS f2 with a 64MB stick and spare battery for about $500NZ ...... just be sure to hagle for the price before you hand over ay money

i was in singapore earlier this year and yeh def teh place for electronics and stuff...

the 5 storey place for electronics is called "Funan the IT Mall"....it really is crazy...everything electronic as far as the eye can see!!

If your going to be in the UK for more than 12 months and your thinking of buying a cell phone, you will be better off getting on a plan in the UK rather than buy a phone in Singapore.

Cell phones are cheaper here in Singapore than in NZ but the mobile industry is so competitive in the UK that you can get a really good phone free if you sign up to a 12-month plan. And the plans are much better than in NZ too (comparative to income of course). I was paying 25 pounds a month and got 100 sms, 200 anytime, cross network, carry over minutes per month.

I found "Phones4You" in the UK had the best deals.
