is it dvds that need more processing

the mini itx board i have does hardware mpeg2 decoding and it has a rather slow 1ghz cpu which is perfect for dvd and divx but its so nice to use (and quiet/cool) that i use it as a desktop most of the time.

Yeah it struggles along.. admittedly I've only just stuck it there and had it going briefly. We had a laptop playing movies until the other week when in a partially drunken & tired state I mistook the USB port for the power port. Result = Fried laptop

I'm not going to start on work Desktop/Server stuff - I have too many.
If we're going for numbers rather than quality I have another 2 PC's at home, but ones the firewall box and the other is for the lounge, it's a k6-2 450 or something like that.
Quite keen on getting one of the minicube P4 boxes for the lounge, I hear they are sweet as and rather quiet.

Quiet pcs are pretty cool most of the mitx boards run on 60w external psu's

the power supplies are a pain by themselves (last time i looked) i ended up buying the cupid case for mine and it works fine even with a 120gig drive in it
i use external usb floppy and dvd drive (much cheaper than the slimline dvds and a wireless pci card tho i used to have a tv tuner card in it.

they run on 12v so i was looking at puttin it in a car as a incar comp but thats getting a bit on the geeky side for me

theres some really cool 1din retractable lcd screens for sale in the states and internet - it wouldnt be too expensive to do a whole incar thing these days. get some surround sound going too
