I'm def out of the loop re any promo tension in wellies at the mo but I was embarrassed by the turn out for Bailey last night. He's been a regular for many years and deserved a better showing for sure.

I'm a Bass Frontiers man through and through but the situation is/was a crying shame. Hope wellies has a chance to redeem itself with Bailey in the future...

yeah I agree man - there was some shit that went down, and it sucks that it had to affect a very well respected DJ like Bailey (I didn't go cuz was playing at Paramount otherwise I would have been there with bells on...) - I have to say tho that there wasn't even a Face Book event page for the gig, so that's pretty poor promotion (not even utilising such a great free resource like FB)...

there was a FB page for it but I agree re the promo. First I saw was a small poster bout a week out from the gig.

Can't imagine he's going to break a sweat getting back to NZ anytime soon. He was playing Chch on sat night so I hope they did a better job down there.

BUT - his set ripped. Threw out some old skool and nice reggae mixes too. A real pro

For the record:

Bailey and his Australian agent had the opportunity to work with the Wellington promoter(s) who had run several successful parties with him here and worked hard to build up his profile in Wellington.
Unfortunately they chose to chase the money and do things without engaging any of the local crew....
... little wonder then that the locals failed to show the love in return.

tbh, i dont think you can lump bailey in that statement, stu.

this is what happens when a promoter from outside the city scope decides he wants to run things and rides roughshod over the welli crew that were attempting to help.

combine that with no actual on the ground promotion, or promotion team, and its a recipe for fail.

still sucks that someone like bailey had to suffer for it.

Didn't even know it was on. Would have gone if I did.
