Should NZC go for Mickey Arthur?

how do you saffa's rate him? And is his resignation a political move to get a black coach into the makeup? Heaps of rumours flying around anyway, and from all appearances Arthur did a pretty good job the last 5 years.

NZ needs a good people manager, I think. Although our skills are lacking a bit in tests, I don't think we're going to improve greatly unless we can have someone who can guide the team with the appropriate level of firmness, but also a diverse enough attitude to 'manage' players like Vetorri and McCullum, and mentor the many younger guys we'll have coming through.

I don't know anything about Mickey Arthur, but if his people skills aren't up to it (ala Bracewell) I would say a resounding NO.

He seems like the polar opposite of Bracewell imo.

Surely NZC is well past the point of "what sort of coach are we looking for?". That should have been decided on months ago and the task now is the find one whose strengths and weaknesses suits our agenda . One would imagine that they want someone with some organisation skills which is why JGW was so quickly dismissed as a potential replacement. Seems to me the coach needs to be strong on batting theory esp from an mental application POV, since thats where this team is weakest and has been for some time now. Either way...they need to appoint someone asap

I think MA is great and will be good for NZ. You only need to look at what he did for SA cricket to realize that he he has the goods ... On that note they did lose a test series at home to Aus and did draw with England however I don't think it was his fault and we should and they are busy looking at higher up management and team selectors!

Well, it's Greatbatch. Must say i'm happy about that. He seems to get along really well with the players, which on the face of things is the single prerequisite to coaching the NZ team.

I think he can add a bit of mongrel to the team as well, which we'll need to trap the rat and his minions next month.
