Installed?

I have already installed some software on my mac. But since doing that, i have lost the serial number. Is this information stored somewhere on the computer?

perhaps in the registry or a info file but yeah all depends on the program.

no registry on a mac (thank god), just .plists in the prefs folder in the user library or system library.

Google resetting the particular application.

Why is it good that there is no registry on macs?

imo the registry was a dopey idea for windows. You can't just copy the registry from one copy of windows to another, and it can get filled up with unnecessary crap and invalid data, especially as applications write to it then don't clean up after themselves, slowing down the computer. It's not remotely user-friendly, great for hiding viruses and every discovered registry tweak you see on the internet comes with a big fat disclaimer that you need to be careful or you'll break windows. That's it's biggest problem. It's a single point of failure. Break the registry, break windows.

oh and um... maybe use terms like reset license, remove serial etc..

k thanks, it's actually for the software we were talking about over FB. See, the discs i am using i had currently installed on my work comp.. but i have lost the serial number. Those other ones didn't work... apparently there is a way of finding them on the computer, trying to figure it out now.

Yeah often software makers obsecure the serial number to make it harder for someone to say steal their volume license key from there work to use at home or something. Thats why its not in the 'help about'. If its stored it's likely it'll be encrypted.

You might be better off hunting down an alternative serial or something. It'll probably be less effort to find a serial you can use on the net. But serials / crack sites are the more dodgy sites on the net in terms of malware / spyware / viruses etc. You really wanna run keygens in a VM.
