imo the registry was a dopey idea for windows. You can't just copy the registry from one copy of windows to another, and it can get filled up with unnecessary crap and invalid data, especially as applications write to it then don't clean up after themselves, slowing down the computer. It's not remotely user-friendly, great for hiding viruses and every discovered registry tweak you see on the internet comes with a big fat disclaimer that you need to be careful or you'll break windows. That's it's biggest problem. It's a single point of failure. Break the registry, break windows.
