ok kids,

so JA superstar MC sean paul has blown up huge worldwide and is pretty much collaboing wit every man and his dog. so whats the opinion everybody?

i think his succsess is well deserved, hes been one of my favourite JA artists for a long time, and hes now done the full crossover from the JA underground to the US top 40. how many others will follow and what will happen to dancehall? pesonaly i thought it would be a group like TOK who were gonna be the first... but 'gimmie the light' has got the ball rollin... which interestingly enuf was origianly released about 18 months ago (might have been more actualy).

got thinking about this cos last night wen i rang my folks my 17 year old little brother had some sean paul cranked up while i was talking to him... weird, it freaked me out a bit. hes listening to the same stuff i am!!

also.. seems he gets refered to as 'urban' or 'hiphop' in the media. i say 'fuck off' hes pure dancehall no question!

I reckon its all good., just been listening to 'Make It Clap' with Busta Rhymes, good tune Smile
I like the whole crossover thing as long as they still bring that rugged dancehall vibe and don't start being seduced by the $ to make themselves too commercial.

Big up Sean Paul. I love hearing a real
dancehall riddim like the 'Buzz' (gimme the light)
in the top40 charts. And i especially love hearing
rappers of Bustas calibre flexing on a dancehall
beat. But i do think JA artists crossing over on all
the hiphop beats just weakens their status in
the dancehall and ultimately dancehall itself. It's
cool introducing hiphop fans to dancehall
vocalists, but i think it works better when the
rappers get on a riddim, a la the Busta Rhymes
remix of "Gimme the Light".
Remember DMX, Sean Paul & Mr Vegas's "Here
comes the Boom/ Topshotta" from the Belly
soundtrack? Now that was one tuff tune.

hmmm,
as far as the hiphop remixes go frisk, the hiphop beats they are rockin are 95% of the time studio constructions with an artists acapella off another tune streched over the hiphop beat, i'd say a huge percentage of these arn't actually very good at all, they sound badly done and are poor quality, but there are a few killers out there. most of the best ones were made about 2 years ago tho Wink

the crossover of real dancehall carnt be bad i guess, finally shows how crap beenie man realy is...
