Hey, did any of you dedicated hip-hoppers catch Scratch at the movies? Excuse my ignorance, I'm not sure if the NZ Film Festival has got to all your places yet, but I'd be really keen to hear what you guys thought of it if you went and saw it.

I saw it at the Wgtn Film Fest last night, one of only two showings!

I really fucking loved it (see what I wrote in the thread in the Flipside forum if you want to see), but then again, I'm not a hip hop expert by any means. Thinking of getting into a bit more scratch and hip hop (have been since I got hooked on Craze and P-Money) but was interested in what some of you guys thought about the presentation of the film.

http://www.scratchmovie.com for more info.

Go and see it if it's coming your way, especially if your local cinema has a decent Dolby 5.1 or DTS sound system. Very Happy

I wanted to see this but its the same old story for me with any film festival, theres a few films Id like to see but never get around to going.
Hopefully the Rialto will put it on otherwise I'll be waiting for it to come out on dvd.

Yeah, I've pre-ordered the DVD off Amazon. Works out to about $52. Doesn't get released in the US until Aug 13, so should get it by the end of August.

Check this shit: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006AL1G/104-0072422-2275176

It's got heaps of extra things:
"Additional scenes and extended interviews
• Artist and crew bios
• Original theatrical trailer
• Disc 2:
• How to Rock a Party: a lesson in the art of DJing with nationally known DJ Z-Trip
• Sneak Attack: a selection from Wave Twisters
• A multi-angle do-it-yourself lesson with DJ Qbert
• Selections from the acclaimed series Battle Sounds
• A unique sound-to-score music transcription
• Trailers and music videos
• Widescreen anamorphic format
• Number of discs: 2"

Good shit, innit. Very Happy

I saw it Monday night and I'm totally kicking myself that I didn't see it Saturday as well. :[

I thought the film incredibly well done and hearing the best turntablists in the world over the Embassy sound system definitely blew the mind! Very Happy

Holy shit!
A multi-angle do-it-yourself lesson with DJ Qbert.
Thems some wicked extras.

If that $52 includes p&p, you got yourself a pretty good deal.

Yup, Amazon have a discount on pre-orders of like 25% so it works out pretty cheap. Very Happy

I'm so excited... pity it's 5 weeks away... arghh!

this sounds like a wicked film..
voice: when is/was the other showing in wellington??
i dont think the festival makes it out here.. so it would be my only chance..

There is no other showing in Wellington unfortunately. :[
The only two showings were on Saturday and Monday.

All finished for Wgtn. However, there is still two good movies related to turntablism I might see:

Breath Control: http://www.nzff.co.nz/filmsynopsis.asp?FilmID=659&Archive=0&RegionID=1&EventID=1
Wave Twisters: http://www.nzff.co.nz/filmsynopsis.asp?FilmID=767&Archive=0&RegionID=1&EventID=1

Both look quite interesting, although maybe less so than Scratch.

In other news, anyone see Breath COntrol: The History of the Human Beatbox, today or earlier?

Fucking cool.

And wasn't Wave Twisters trippy... QBert is a madman. Very Happy

like actual the shit, like rediculously dope.
If u missed it, then i ipitty the fool but its what u get for lack of dedication to tha cause Smile

Scratch just played here in Hamilton.
Very entertaining (though you'd have a hard time defending it as a 'good movie'), one of the best things I've seen for a while. I'd like to see Wave Twisters, but it doesn't come here.

Scratch was the most inspirational uplifting film i've ever seen about the HH scene . .bullshit free info-tainment . . and that scene definatley needs a bullshit detraction
