Scott Dixon to get F1 Test

Well done, this man is a legend, probably one of our most succesful racing drivers ever!! Up

and Chris Amon. Scott Dixon is an awesome driver and a nice guy to boot. Hope he can generate enough sponsorship for F1.

This is kind of wierd... it's pretty much the policy of every formula one team to NOT give tests to IRL drivers as they only race on ovals.. which is pointless even making a comparison to a circuit style of driving...

Yes yes I know Scott Dixon has done circuit racing .. but not for over a year.

His manager - Kenny Smith is famous for making/leaking this kind of stuff into the enws to drum up a bit of 'wow!' factor here in NZ..

Who knows.. all of the bigger F1 teams now have two test drivers in their employ..

He's gonna be big one day, but i think he needs a few more years in the US under his belt, you don't wanna rush things, he still learning.......

The small thing being that, from a F1 perspective, you don't kearn anything by racing only on ovals.. which is why there are no F1 races on ovals... Scott Dixon needs to change back to the CART series and get some good results on street circuits to prove himself to an F1 team..

But an F1 test can always prove someones immediate aptitude to driving such tricky cars..

You don't want him to spend too much time in CART -- it'll just make the transition across to F1 that much harder. He'll have to change his driving style and adapt, even if he spends some time in CART.

I think his best bet is to sign as a test driver with one of the leading teams, and prove himself that way. Having said that, if he follows this path, he faces the risk of getting stuck there...

ps. On a completely unrelated note, Michael Schumacher is King! Go Scuderia Ferrari!

Pretty hard to make the switch from US leagues to F1 -
da Matta cleaned up in the Champ Cars last year but hasn't made a huge impression in F1 yet

Any of you know Kenny Smith? He's the man behind the man.
If you know much about New Zealand motorsport than you'll know who he is.

He's Scott Dixons coach. Great man and a NZ Legend. I can see how his coaching hand reflects on young Scott. Scott is doing great, and he'll get better as the years go by.

I have the great pleasure of knowing Kenny Smith and have meet Scott's Dad. But not Scott.
