Quite frankly, does this event have any place on biggie? Is there a place on biggie for a tiresome 70's/80's retro tits and arse exercise in the best Loaded Hog tradition? The title of this site is - "NZ dance music and urban culture online". Now, IMHO school disco certainly FAILS the first part of the test of this sites title. Dance music may be many things, but it AIN'T crappolla 70's/80's nostalgia rubbish like an Abba tribute medley or "Total Eclipse of the heart". Those tracks were awful first time round - I know, I was there.

Lets Keep the ZM rubbish OFF our agenda's please!!!

Just because its being put on in a K'rd club by a well known promoter and has DJ's playing all that old vinyl DOES NOT make it a dance event in my book - its like saying cos Russell Coutts is steering the speedboat its still the America's Cup. Its still a speedboat towing a ZM banner.

I'm not saying that School Disco might not be fun, all I'm saying that Kylie Minogue doing the locomotion is best left to large family weddings in Waipawa, where one can be faintly embarassed forming a conga line with the in-laws in the safe knowledge that anyone with any taste will never see you.

I suppose it might be covered by the second part of the biggie description - "NZ urban culture" but then so would a discussion on V8 engines.

I see biggies getting dissed for being uptight snobs for not attending, but since most dance music enthusiasts HATE lollipop rock I fail to see why people should be criticised for not going to something they don't like...
[quote]
Some interesting points raised there, Fish Boy. Maybe by that meaning "NZ Dance Scene Online", we could include Retro at Grand Circle as well.
In all honestly, Im not gonna shoot down people just because they enjoy something that the majority dont listen to. Hmm, its a tough one.
[quote]
I'm not shooting anyone down, just wondering if it has a place on biggie...
[quote]
I think it does. "...urban Culture online" Retro probably did define a culture back in the '80s.
[quote]
And for the less perceptive of you out there, that was a direct hit at me from Fishboy. Once again demonstrating, that even if the numbers on your drivers licence say that you have been around for over 3 decades, you can still act like you've only been here for one.

[quote]
PS: You reckon analog is gonna take on One Green Apple next huh Fish_boy?

Havent we already had enough trouble this year with PROMOTORS dissing each other?

Wheres Jon, Id like to see him whoop your ass.
[quote]
Whethe or not thats true Pluto I think its a good point, is there really anything different between School Disco and any other Retro gig apart from the name of the promoter?

(maybe there is, enlighten me...)

In that case, arent we setting a precendent here?

Where does it end?

Could this site soon have 40,000 members with a majority logging on to see where the cheap jugs are this weekend

:O

Wink
[quote]
Nah, its true, he really is that old.
Razz
[quote]
Dont forget to note the Wink before you get all fired up too dr_beat Razz
[quote]
Pluto, so am I babe :O
[quote]
I can't see why it doesn't have a place on this site no?
And being aware that you and Pluto aren't currently seeing
eye to eye then yes it does look like this was typed out
with Pluto in mind...

[quote]
The Maestro: yeah, but you can get away with it cos youre reeeeediculously good looking! Wink
[quote]
hee hee ok Im on your side now Very Happy

[quote]
*covers Maestro with kisses*

[quote]
um.....you missed a bit ;O
[quote]
oh fuck up half the shit that gets posted on here has got nothing to do with the 'dance scene'
or the 'dance music'
you fish_boy are one of the many who posts random shit about yourself and your lil friends all the time it was a party that djs (who do or have played 'dance' music) were playing at. aint it enuff?!
it was a good time and a break from the usual pap that u guys go to so who really cares dont be so fuckin pretentious!
[quote]
OH FFS fish_boy pull your head in. thats even more pathetic than crying cos little bobby got jam sandwiches and you only got marmite!

Grow up buddy I thought a lot more of you untill I read that.
[quote]

[quote]

[quote]
samsara: definately come next time, it was a blast for sure.

Thank you wife! Just what I needed! Wink

Maestro: I'll get that bit that I missed next time I see you okay?

Heres some of the photos:

http://www.schooldisco.net.nz/school_photos.htm

[quote]
I'm with fish_boy on this one. I don't think crappy retro music fits in at all ...perhaps if it was music from the past that was actually decent it would be ok.
[quote]
WHERE ARE THE CHEAP JUGS??????
[quote]
KLF
SNAP
DE LA SOUL

Hmmm, do ya think that material from those groups might have contributed in anyway to the music you listen to now?

To see where you are going, you have to appreciate where you have been. Anything less is ignorance.
[quote]
samsara and Firetruck the boards are for discussion ffs, instead of flaming fish_boy why dont you rationalize against his post

[quote]

[quote]
LOL at the dental nurse giving out ciggarettes
[quote]
agrees with Astral!
[quote]
Hey Babe, sorry didnt make it up, made an appearance at Calibre briefly then bailed. Will wear it again for you sometime tho! :p

Harvey, perhaps youre just too young?
[quote]
people were requesting am i right??
maybe there was good music from the passed. you obviously wouldnt know so you cant pass judgement.
where do you think dance music came from??
all music is relevant in one way or another.
where the fuck should something like that be advertised on a website about the 80's ?? if that happened the crowd would have been a bunch of over grown westies from otorohonga. not a nice thing to see in school uniforms i might add.
plus harvey your a moderator.....
if u had any problem with it why did u just delete anything to do with it!
ffs
who really cares! the bonsai kitten thing was more imposing and really more irrelevant to this sites means than anything i have seen . go figure

[quote]
Pluto - I think you needed to have the zip undone a bit more - just for next time.
LOL!
[quote]
samsara: I am a moderator ...but that doesn't mean I am going to delete something just cos I don't like it! Do you have any idea how things work?

Pluto: Age has nothing to do with decent musical taste.
[quote]
Astral: really? I was wondering about that! Thanks, I will make sure that I have it lower next time. Youre such a helpful friend Astral!

Harvey: You are right.
[quote]
But it would explain why nostalgia didnt influence your decision to not go
[quote]
Harvey ... descent music, taste? Surely that is a matter of opinion.

Who are you to say what is descent and what isn't. If you don't like that kinda music, don't go to the event (which I am sure you didn't), but you don't need to moan about it on here and spout your musical arrogance.
[quote]
"I fail to see why people should be criticised for not going to something they don't like... "

I fail to see why an even should be criticised if someone doesnt like it.

Its not fucking brain surgery is it.
[quote]
skool disco music is hardly any worse than that shit hard house you people flock to go "rave" at, at least a decent pop song actually takes some creativity and thought....
[quote]
but surely if it wasnt 'suitable' for this site it shouldnt be in here am i right?
[quote]

uh oh here we go

[quote]
I see no reason why this site cannot cater to the er, school disco crowd.I like a bit of diversity. It all recreation anyway.. isnt it?
[quote]
*quietly hums to herself 'nothing I can say...a total eclipse of the heart'*

if this turns into a frenzy of genre bashing I will personally travel down your phone lines and beat the living crap out of you all...

except for pluto, cos she's my friend Smile

(and she's tough and would finish me off in seconds...)
[quote]
All it was was a bit of fun, don't give yourself a heartattack. I'm actually sad that I didn't go. I used to rip up the dancefloor back in my school disco days pffffft!
[quote]
*grabs dj keewee and starts 90's style school disco dancing*
[quote]
DJ Keewee, I was hoping you were going to be there actually, I was quite gutted that you werent there to dance with me when they played " strokin".

Wink
[quote]
go the running man!! Wink
[quote]
I wish somebody would do an 80's disco...

I am waiting for an excuse to get out my bubble skirt,
black stonewash denim jacket and wear my hair in a
scrunchie bubble.....
[quote]
haha Renn!

awww Pluto! Razz Next time, I swear it!

*twirls catgirl and then dips her Wink*
[quote]
I want to be dipped!

LOL!

Wink
[quote]
woo-hoo!! *giggles woozily at dj keewee* that was fun, thanks hun!! Smile
[quote]
Shit, fish boy has run away fast hasn't he! Jesus, I come back on biggie from ages of not being bothered and its still the bloody same.

Fishboy, just one small year ago you weren't even around mate, pull your head in! Who fucken cares if people want to have a little fun listening to old school tunes that really were great in that era!

Did you have a good time pluto? Yes?! Well then, thats all that matters right, thats what it used to be about any way.

Analouge? Whats that anyway? Sounds like a breakfast cereal.
[quote]

I thought Analog was a watch or a clock

[quote]
Hey Red!

Yeah, I had a fucking good time actually!

One of the things that made it special was that everyone was dressed effectively the same.

Everyone was on the same level. Nobody was any better than anybody else.

And (best part) there were hardly any biggies!

If "the scene" is dying, its biggie thats doing it. Its not bringing people together, its analysing the shit out of everything. I can spot a group of biggies a mile off. Its like a disease!

LOL!
[quote]
you wanna be dipped Pluto? get in line! Razz

or you can be chocolate-dipped? Very Happy
[quote]
A disease I have managed not to get which can I just say is something I am very proud of! Having real friends and doing real things is actually quite a buzz.

ps: Need your address again my love (yes I am fucking shocking)...Engagment party is in a months time Smile

pps: Wear your nurses uniform. Please. That would be the best present for Mike anyday. LOL!
[quote]
FFS! The scene isn't dying ...it just changes.
[quote]
ooh ooh dj keewee - can I please be chocolate dipped? Wink

harvey - perhaps you and i should start a 'it's not dying for FFS it's just changing' club...you can be president and i'll be the club mascot...maybe if we post the motto on every single thread every day for a month we can finally kill off all the 'it's dying' threads...

...whaddya reckon?
[quote]
DJ Keewee: both of those options sound delicious!

RB: will text ya! Remind me to get blue sparkly! Wink And MAYBE on the nurses uniform, just maybe.
[quote]
Don't be an old grump fish_boy. Disco will never die! Yeah!
[quote]
CLOSE MINDED PEOPLE PISS ME OFF.

who is to decide what music is cool .. only one person .. yourself.

mind you fish is a really nice girl wanted to bang the hell out of you but she liked the hog .. ...

would you say no .. ?????

[quote]
Does transtemporal remind anyone else of Fez off "That 70s Show"?

(its okay TT, he is a hottie!!)
Wink
[quote]
pluto, you better not let delilah see you spade her man...there'll be tears! Wink

(but now you mention it, the resemblence is startling...)
[quote]
Well said catgirl!
[quote]
catgirl:

Delilah and I had our first time together anyway, its only fair that I have a go with Transtemporal as well isnt it?
[quote]
I mean the post about the 'it's not dying for FFS it's just changing' club!
[quote]
LOL! Fez! Quite accurate there Miss Pluto.

Top, fuck shit fuck. *cough* We have already established how slack and shocking I really am. Let this be a prime example!

You will get it back, I promise. I have just been hibernating a bit and it did honestly slip my mind!

SORRY Sad
[quote]
oh pluto, of course, when you put it that way.

and she did let me have a go with him, so i guess you should be able to...

*purrs at dj keewee*
[quote]
I bags Kelso!
[quote]
dammit saff, you were too quick!!! how about you me and kelso?
[quote]
Dont worry, I only remember every now and then when Ive got nothing to wear... Wink

Mmm, and let me re-phrase myself "the scene isnt dying, its just changing, and its now changed to something that I dont want to be part of". Exit. Stage Left!

Wink
[quote]
I could chocolate dip you catgurrrl, but the chocolate would stick to ur fur Razz
[quote]
DJ Keewee - you could lick it off! But I suppose you'd get fur-balls! LOL!

[quote]
Sure Catgirl, though the poor boy wouldn't
survive!
[quote]
damn! i can think of nothing to say that will deal with the fur issue and still enable me to have chocolate licked off me by dj keewee :/

i am so losing my touch. help me pluto, help me!!!
[quote]
nice troll fish_boy.

Smile
[quote]
saff - good point :/ ok, you have him, i'll keep brad pitt Wink
[quote]
hehe unless we skin u first muahaha :/
[quote]
You guys are dicks O.K.?

If you think THATS spooky, you should have seen my haircut when I was 12... ha ha ha!
[quote]
Golly, go to a meeting and look what happens! I always think the best trolls are ones that are actually about an issue that people have divided opinions on...

Who said I was having a go at anyone??? Well, I must admit you got me thinking about it Pluto, because the whole, school disco phenomena is being blamed for a pile of woes in the UK dance scene. But don't see a personal attack where one aint!

I don't think I said anywhere I didn't like school disco - I hate most 80's music, not much sign of what any half decent music critic would call substantive work in the line up of tunes from the gig in dancenet. Its my view that school disco is probably fun, its just not dance music - whats wrong with that? Why is that dissing another promoter? If I had said "I heard school disco was shit and no one turned up and the guy who organised couldn't put on a beer festival in an East German steel mill" that would be dissing the guy, I think this falls into opinion.
[quote]
*goes pale*

keewee, that's just....scary...
[quote]

Hi fishy

I found your post an enternaining read and didn't take any of it too personally . . . . I guess with ObrienBoy not being online much somebody has to fill in as the biggie stirrer huh?

Smile
[quote]
as you where .. its all good .

i just heard that school dico in uk will have about 10,000 at it for NYE party .. insane ...

[quote]
wowsers! Now that would be a blast Smile
[quote]
This is a very weird topic.

There has been no news on biggie about the school disco so perhaps this could suggest that the promoter did not consider this to be the target market, however no reason why there shouldn’t be.

I’m sure people in the “dance scene” have fun dressing up, letting loose to those old tunes we all used to think were cool. Or maybe we are just some weird cult who fear songs with words hehe Razz
[quote]
I SAID!!!

WHERE ARE THE CHEAP JUGS OF
BEER?>?????????

[quote]
Can't help sorry Damien, I don't have cheap jugs
or beer!
[quote]
which of u laydees have your jugs on special? Wink
[quote]

[quote]

[quote]

[quote]
TYPICAL!

The gutless back out when faced with too much controversy! LOL!

If this isnt "having a go" then what is?

You called School Disco "ZM rubbish"

Define "dance music" - I would have thought its music you can fucking DANCE to. LOL!

Saff: Your jugs are lovely, but youre right, they aint cheap.

[quote]
I just want all the school disco people to go "sleep with fishes".
[quote]
Oh shit!

<1 hour ago>

I must be too late, did it come in?
[quote]
If its good enough for DJ Magazine, its good enough for biggie.
I don't understand the fuss?????

Ps: I love 80s music Very Happy
[quote]
No fuss PFunk, I was just wanting to get a *gasp* music debate going on biggie...
[quote]
There's plenty of debate in the genre and dancenet forums Very Happy
