thats right kids, after the highly successful (and damn good!) summerset last year the boys have been working hard to bring you the next installment.

easter saturday (22 march) sees an even bigger and better event from last year, the 'class on grass' event kicks off at midday and goes right through till midnight, an entire 12 hours of music and adventure in the middle of our fair city. this time there will be two music zones and much MUCH more on the cards!

Sunshine Sound System (NZ) will MC the live commentary, while two of last years in-form players, SHAPESHIFTER (NZ) in their only performance in the Capital City for 2008, and Tom Middleton (UK) return to the squad.

the moggey boys have dane another sterling video creation which you can check out at..

more info on its way!! BOH!! Music Music Music

I leave 2 days before Sad
all your buddies coming to welly for this can book a package via my website www.nzmyway.com/summerset2008.jsp Pink Winky

NB: It would pay for those coming to the gig to get in early as there's a certain rock concert on at the caketin which will put a strain on accommodation. Very reasonably priced and desirable packages too.

$110 for that line up, outdoors, is pretty sweet...LTJ and MC Conrad were $45 last time I saw them at Sammies alone. First time Dave Seamen has made it down that way. Good deal in my books!

[interesting fact I heard on the radio]

basin reserve is 4th oldest cricket ground in the world and is now a heritage site - was established in 1855!

[/interesting fact I heard on the radio]
And for those that really don't know their history, it used to be an actual basin, a boating lake, prior to a big quake in 1855 raising the land 1.5m.

Prior to the changes with traffic lights being installed at the tunnel side, it was also the largest round-a-bout in the southern hemisphere...it's still technically classed as the largest traffic island in the southern hemisphere though, just not a true round-a-bout anymore.

Dude, you have no idea:

quote:
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (REUTERS) -- Wellington will be shooting for the stars in a bid to stave off downpours when it hosts the SummerSet music festival in March 2008.

Using an arsenal of rockets, artillery and aircraft, the SummerSet organisers will try to blast the clouds out of the sky, a meteorologist told a New Zealand Current Affairs show, through a technique which falls under the umbrella of "cloud seeding."

"We can turn a cloudy day into a dry and sunny one by shooting the clouds less intensively than when we make rain, or even snow - wink wink nudge nudge" head 'peyow peyow' expert Bryce M for the Wellington municipal weather bureau told Reuters.

By shooting shells containing chemicals like silver iodide, or dry ice into the sky, Bryce says they can create rain. The Summerset boys have gone so far as to set up a weather modification office that is in charge of such an endeavor.

When the guns go off, they scatter crystals that attract water droplets in the cloud, making them grow faster, said climate and weather expert Wa-day from Lincoln University. The crystals become heavy and fall as cocai... err... raindrops he said.

Planes, too, can be used to drop chemicals onto clouds to manipulate the weather.

In the case of Summerset, climate experts will pore over satellite images to find ways to dissolve the clouds rather than make it rain.

"Scientists fly an airplane, sampling the cloud ... to see if there is potential for it to produce cocai... water, and if it is likely to work, they will shoot the gun," Wa-day said.

Tests in the weeks leading up to the event have looked promising.

STELLA! If you've never seen these cats before make sure you check them out! Not too well known, but they're fucking amazing! Easily my fav NZ live dance music group. Brilliant mix of downbeat steez and proper lushed out deep house...beautiful!

I hope the weather comes to the party for you guys! This is a fucking amazing line up for any party in the whole of Australisia...let alone in Wellytown, NZ! Much respect to the sandwiches family for the work involved in setting this up...wish I could be there to enjoy it all with ya's!

ps - we'll try not to break Dave Seamen on Friday. We're gettting him playing a 2 hour set on the mid afternoon boat cruise and again in the wee smalls back up in the club!

After a month of pretty dodgy weather, the last 4 days in Welly have been absolutely glorious. Here's hoping it lasts through til Saturday!

Does anyone have details about VIP/after-party? I've got earlybird tickets which apparent gets me into one, but I don't have any details. It looks like Tom Middleton might be playing Sammies? I want to make sure I'm wherever Crazy P is- love them!! And I definitely don't want to be on the streets from midnight with nowhere to go except hang out with the Rockfest bogans!
Are you sure? Most early birds had entry to Sunday night @ Sammies with Tom playing there then,,, (well, mine did Wink)

Saturday night is a nightmare: 50,000 people in town and the city pretty much under lockdown thanks to the DLA, and Jesus. There is an afterparty at Sammies, but as far as i'm aware its limited to the artists, media, staff and whanau.
