DIGITAL BOOGIE & 95bfm IN ASSOCIATION WITH BECKS PRESENT
DERRICK MAY (detroit USA) TRANSMAT RECORDS
Hailed as one of the godfathers of techno, alongside Jaun Atkins & Kevin
Saunderson, Derrick May returns to New Zealand to show us again why he is referred
to as 'the innovator'. As one of Detroits most famous musical sons, May has helped
shape the sound known as Techno, and brought it to the attention of the world via his
own Transmat label, and with emotive compostions like 'nude photo',
'R-Theme'and the seminal 'strings of life' recording as Mayday and Rhythim is
Rythim.
Although his recording output has been limited during the past decade, Mays ablility
to rock a dance floor with his three deck mixing is legendary, and his recent remix of
DJ ROLANDO'S 'knights of the jaguar' track reminded the world that he has not lost
his flair for wrenching emotion from his music machines. A night not to be missed as
one of dance music's most illumnied heroes touches down in auckland for one special
date at FU

all on the deep-house tip, alright for starters.?
[quote]
Migs Graca is that the geezer who did the super deep dubby mix of watch dem come by roy d? If so I be well pleased. Stacy Kidd yes
[quote]
Hows that branding going, Clarkee?

'Cause I'd like to see these gigs go off, but they are pretty underground names...
[quote]
Stacy kidd - exceptional producer, bad dj
[quote]
Bad like good or bad like wack
[quote]
Bad DJ my asse, seen him and he was good, nah he dos'nt have the big name like Beavn keyes or Soane, are you kidding me? Plays a mixture of music which should be a good experience from the mundaine same sounding so called big namers.
5 cents.
[quote]
I suppose I shouldn't speak too soon, and it
was some time ago that I saw him. But if
anyone went to Stacy Kidd @ the box.
yeah, nice records... shit mixing. I rate him as a
producer and have many S.Kidd titles.
We'll see how much? and where? I will go and
hope to eat my words. happy?!
[quote]
Happy, anyone heard the latest yellorange cut Kimiesha Holmes - Ups ans Downs. really feelin this track at the moe.
Peace
[quote]
Hey dirty, i was at that gig at the box all those years ago, and it did 'nt go down that well, still that was a long time ago, I don't even think the likes of Soane,Philippa, paul dean, etc, were even djing then, so i guess if they learnt in that time he would of? Besides he has produced some killer tunes. MIguel Graca will blow your socks off, i have some of his cds, wicked, like Sanchez used to be before he went commercial. Marquis Wyatt, voted best dj in US 2001. Heard Yosts new album? superb.
[quote]
Hey soulman, i am working on that branding?
[quote]
I remember Stacy Kidd at the box - i was disappointed, though didn't know enough about mixing (then) to comment on that side of things, liked some of his records (he played) and others seemed a bit mainstream for my taste.

Love many of the records he's produced recently and I for one would love to see the man down here.

Bring them all on Clarkee!
[quote]
it just seems kinda backwards to produce
music before learning how to mix. If thats where
your passions lie then fair enough but I certainly
wouldn't feel obliged to have to lay down a set in
a club if my technical ability weren't at least up to
scratch.
clarkee - I have heard Yost's new album and will
confirm... niceness!
[quote]
i don't think it's backwards some people probly just want to make the music themselves first (altho most are usually djs first). BUT i fully agree that u shouldn't been given gigs etc on your production ability cos that's just wrong.

i'd be pissed if i went to see a producer i liked playing & he was shit a mixing! if you can't mix at a reasonable level then u shouldn't be getting gigs based on your productions.
[quote]
Yeh but what about the female dj's who can't mix, can't produce, have only 20 records, getting loads of work because of their good looks and the fact that most clubowners are male and suckers for a pretty girl?
[quote]
Clarkee just get some knee pads, have a close shave and level the playing field.
[quote]
That's a whole different thread waiting to be
exploited Clarkee. Don't get me started!
[quote]
Dc wipes his mouth, smiles and gets another residency. Dats why he's dirty
[quote]
Clarkee - you know that's not true about female djs. from my experience you have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good. And when you do actually get a decent gig everybody whinges and says it's just 'cause you're a girl and you look hot up there behind the decks. The dj industry is still mostly a boys club. But then on the other hand, the hard house/trance scene is so different from the deep house scene anyway - you don't see Philippa or Claire parading around behind the decks wearing little matching lycra two-pieces - they generally look sexy and convey some class without having to resort to such tackiness.
[quote]
well said.
[quote]
LoL @ knee pads!!!
[quote]
Yeh Sabin, point taken, but there are female djs and female djs, i have one of your cds and its very good, nice gentle build ,progress's nicely, overall pretty good, also your not afraid to go out and spend on good tunes. But then you lived with a good dj for a few years? some of that was bound to rub off.
[quote]
Q: you don't see Philippa or Claire parading around behind the decks wearing little matching lycra two-pieces

yeah thats because it quite a diff fashion sense at the gigs and clubs they play at.

what philippa wears wouldnt go down too well at certain hardhouse or trance gigs....
