Octave One were keen to get out here a couple of years back before Black Water (live+djing), and were all up for it, but I'd say that the price would be very high here now - since Black Water and the new 430 West mix CD they're asking top dollar! They are wicked live though! Must see.

id love to see octave one.. that would be something special indeed..

Come on bamboo productions. Time to do some more gigs. Hell I am almost ready to quit my day job in IT. Could do some agent scouting at sonar, book some dates =)

Dates are all there, it's easy as to hook shit up, we get a dozen offers a week. It's basically down to $$.
Do you want to front $10k for a gig that may only get 50 paying people?
The risk is massive, and yeah sure it may work, but then again it might harm the scene more! If anyone's willing to put their money where their mouth is I'm sure we'll all love it

If people actually supported everything on mass then it would be worth it, there are enough people in the scene, but every time somethign happens 25-50% decide not to go out, which means everything is a risk! So the real trick is folks, start supporting things BEFORE you ask for the treats

Thats it, we are going to have to build that local scene more, HARDSOUL, whens that happening, is there a venue issue or something?

I am off to Welli this weekend, I will see whoses ears I can bend down there as well.

Once we have the local scene, then we can bring the internationals to support our own pumping gigs =)

is it possible to book int'l DJ's on a 'maybe' basis?
- You book them out a long way say 3-4 mths - maybe more
- you sell tkts in advance
- the keen peeps buy 'em
- if enough sell it proceeds.
- if not enough sell the gig cans n promoter only loses whatever deposit he may have had to make to the DJ
make it exclusive - yeh that means expensive so u dont need to sell TOO many

(of course all monies must be held in trust account - so the punters will be sure of a refund in the case of a no-go. The promoter has to take some risk)

of couse I dunno squat about promotion

I know it would be hard to get people to buy tikts so far in advance , but lifes a challenge :+) and if the DJ was a big enough attraction then maybe folks would shell out far in advance....

the objective is to minimize the promotional risk so that things can start to happen again - without too many bankruptcies along the way

You pay 50% deposit. You don't get that back if you cancel in under a month. You never sell presales to techno gigs until a few days out. You have to also book +pay for the flights in advance, so you loose out on anything if you're getting a cheap deal. You can only hold bookings far off, and if you can't cough up the fee then you loose to someone who can. Also if you pay in advance, you're probably paying top dollar, the only way we can afford techo jocks in NZ is through personal contacts, or if you wait till the last second and a gig becomes available and they ask for less, which means no promo time... double edged sword!


The main thing is, why should anyone bother with internationals when they're putting 6-10k on the line, when people don't even go to local gigs when they're getting value for money? Can't have the pie and eat it too unfortunatly...

You can actually make money from techno, just like house, or d&b, but it needs the grass roots support, like the other styles enjoy. They have an already established fan base, who will go out and support the locals rain or shine, and then get the treats
I can't complin, at least the house fan base has got out Carter for me

Sure, sometimes more depending on the time of the touring year (20 available dates this morning, nothing suitable tho).

Oh, and you NEED to do a joint gig with welly and australia, no way can you afford the fees+full flight share for internationals (can add $2000+ to the gig).
