Go the NZRFU, the IRB is asking us to break contracts with caterers, box holders, and somehow get private businesses to remove billboards and advertising from their own property. If owned a dairy next door to Eden Park and was told I had to remvoe the signage from my store I'd tell them to get fucked, it's my store. WTF is right.

Yeah, its a mess allright. Bloody aussies don't even watch rugby, the fuckers. Its on free-to-air TV in the middle of the night, if at all.

I desperately want the All Blacks to win. Its about time they got it again. I want them to wipe the smarmy smiles off the faces of the aussies that do watch it (i.e. private school educated ones - they're the only ones that play the game or are remotely interested).

What you aren't considering in this is the effect on a companies reputation of giving up their box (in return for some form of compensation) in order to make the world cup go ahead. It would be really bad PR if you were seen as a company that rpevented the world cup coming to NZ. Dairies would also find the same thing.

Yeah, it's silly anyway, right. Thnk about it logically. The way I see it there are two choices leading to essentialy the same outcome.

1) Don't give up box -> NZ does not get rugby world cup, so box is not used anyway, as there is nothing put on at the stadium.

2) Give up box -> Box is not used, NZ /may/ get to subhost the RWC.


Seems like it should be a simple choice for corporates. I don't see they don't have much to lose with regards to the counterfactual anyway.

The bigger problem is this overarching "advertising" business. It seems the IRB has ridiculously tight contracts with its sponsors for the RWC, and they're just not enforceable. Do they think stadia are all produced out of thin air? Of course not, the majority are sponsored. Seems all very silly to me.

Dairies don't give a fuck about PR, they functioon on convienence. Also why should the IRB get control over the boxes, if they want them they can pay the $250,000 for each one that the current box holders have to.

Because the IRB hold all the cards on this one. I think the NZRFU have bungled this one badly. They have not done enough work to see what they could and couldn't offer. The fact that Trevor Mallard went and met the IRB chief and the NZRFU didn't shows that. They should have either got a meeting or gatecrashed the meeting with the aussies.

The All Blacks are the biggest international drawcard in the tournament. Id love to see us tell the IRB to fuck off, we boycott , World Cup becomes a sham when a couple of pacific nations follow. The NZRFU and IRB have never seen eye to eye about rule changes, refs, amatuerism, pretty much everything. I think theres an element of petty revenge in all this.

Do people in NZ really care that the springboks weren't there, no. Same with Walker winning 1500m in 1976. Boycotting would hurt NZ infinitely more than anyone else. The IRB would just shrug their shoulders. say Ok then if thats what you want to do, get another team in, and in 4 years time we would go back to the tournament looking like idiots.

Hi there, I'm a kiwi living in Sydney, the whole thing is being made to look like we are whinging about this and that and the aussies couldn't be happier.....damn their black hearts...... I'm pretty peeved about it myself. The Australian Rugby Board chiefs flew to England yesterday for a pow wow with the IRB. Believe me they are going to do whatver it takes to cement this deal. Sorry to say but its all too late now.

The Aussies won't fuck it up. Too much experience putting on huge (read Olympics) events to do that. Full support of State and Federal governments etc.

NZRFU made big mistakes.....

The Aussies took their chances to stuff us (Super 12 fiasco etc) and won.

We acted with a fair smattering of naiviety (ie 'we are the All Blacks...make a rugby decision (ummm hello this is big, big business)) and arrogance.

i cant even count on two hands how many test matchs i have been to since i was about 4 id say at least 70 or 80 im the biggiest fan there is but there is a limit on spending money on sumthing like rubgy.

Well, all I have heard about it lately in Sydney is three-quarters of the way through the news they said "The kiwis have lost their subhosting rights to the Rugby Union World Cup because they couldn't provide clean stadiums. And now onto the weather".

Most of them couldn't give a fuck. Aussies are so dumb they won't even realise the Rugby World Cup is on until a week before it starts.

Pisses me off. To leave New Zealand out of it is just complete and utter crap, its a bloody crime. Its all about money money money, and yeah, aussie has more of it. They are saying they have all these facilities to play the game, but you can count Western Australia and Victoria out of it for a start because they don't even know what Rugby Union is!!

And they haven't got clean stadiums themselves yet. They're just a bunch of lying pricks and if they win the bloody thing I am going to...be very vexed!!
