Roni Size probably never comming back :(

Did anybody hear the Professors drive show on bfm last night?
He mentioned that although Roni Size played one of his best sets ever last Friday he was put off comming back because of the way he was treated by customs.
He also mentioned that eventhough these artists fit a certain "profile" that they look for, they hardly ever find anything when they search them.

Pull your head in customs. Its not like these people NEED to be smuggling drugs into the country.

There's a lot more to it than that.

But......it's nothing new. Every single black DJ / MC we have had through has got the full search while often their white travelling partner walks straight through.

Subtronix is regularly sitting in that waiting area for 3-4 hours while customs have their fun. Some artists get more peeved off about it than others. But all in all, for the most part it shouldn't happen at all. I bet the real drug dealers are walking straight past. Blame Lisa Lashes and those god damn swab machines!!!

Customs are racist and our justice system is corrup.

LTJ BUKEM is rejected from NZ for weed, the 3rd member from Black Eyed Peas declined from NZ for one joint (both might I add were black) yet Lisa Lashes gets into NZ with 2 tabs of E and a $900 fine from Otahuhu District court. Where is the justice?

I was actually thinking about this the other day ...after I heard that Roni & Dynamite got held up @ customs.

That shit is downright disrespectful, racist and tarnishes our reputation ..and what's worse there is fuckall we can do! You'd think that a multi-cultural society like our own would be more tolerant towards the myriad of people of different ethnic backgrounds that enter our country ...but Noooo!!

Hard to know the best course of action without making things a lot worse.
We keep going back hoping things will change and prove us wrong, but it happens *every* time without fail now.

It's very sad, and very true. We have the harshest customs pretty much any of our artists encounter on their travels and it's the last thing they need after 30 hours flying. The race thing is what really astounds us. It seems odd that NZ of all countries still harbours those attitudes in government departments.

It'd be a sad state of affairs if only light coloured DJ's & MC's (are there any?) would start making the trip over to gods own because of our bad rep. I don't think it'd ever get that far ...but it's a scary thought.

Ah, a couple of friends of a friend of mine

You can also add Stacy Pullen to the list of black DJ's who isn't coming back due to being severely hassled by customs.It wasn't because of any swab test because he doesn't do drugs.
