just read in the paper that ronaldo, oliver kahn and zidane had been shortlisted for the player of the year award, if kahn gets it, this will be the first time a goalkeeper will have one it, whats your picks?

I'd say Ronaldo. Multi-goal scorer versus excellent goalkeeper.

Ronaldo - had the most impact on world soccer over the last year or so.

they've had a couple of moments of glory here & there, but not enough to be called a player of the year!

No surprises there really. Zidane has had a shit year, so its a toss up between Kahn and Ronaldo

So what has Kahn been performing like outside of the World Cup arena where he had stunners in all but the final game? Ronaldo and Zidane have both won player of the year which will make it a bit less likely to for them to repeat it this year.

Their short list doesn't seem to have much variation each year, just take 1 out of the previous year and throw in louis Figo, D Beckham, or a Brazilian or Italian striker. Surely there must be some more talent out there than those that earn $millions++

Kahn was Player of the World Cup, that's usually a good indicator.
