I read recently about a product that h/p was
developing that, was literally a mechanical dj,
It had the ability to mix tracks fluently, and even
read the crowd, by sensors people wear telling
it if they liked the track or not, thus selecting one
more fitting for the time. It could also read
movement of the crowd, fast - slow, and adjust
the pitch or tracks accordingly.
The article also read that when the product was
tested at a club in london 80% of the clubbers
couldn't tell the difference, between the product
and the real DJ.
I Guess it was going to happen eventually, but I
hope it is shunned upon, as no matter how
smart we get, a machine ain't never gonna have
soul.

Thoughts?

I don't see that theres anything to worry about.

Machines are good as long as they function transparently but as soon as they break down, you know about it; i.e. if the robo DJ crashed, there would be big problems (especially if it was Windows based).

Add to that the fact that clubbers probably won't identify greatly with a beige, rectangular DJ! Greg is difficult enough sometimes!

Difficult to market a mechanical DJ too. Can you imagine Robo DJ on a sundrenched beach on the cover of 'GU030: Robo DJ - Redmond'? Not as pretty as Sasha now is he?
