Basically the Republicans are making up lies about the NHS and making ridiculous claims in their efforts to ensure poor people aren't given access to medical care in the US. The thing is some of the crap they are spouting is so utterly wrong that the NHS could have them done for slander, the only thing saving these conservatards is the fact that it's a public organisation.

The NHS is a fucking great service, yes there are long waiting lists, but it's free so that's to be expected (plus queueing is one of the most British things you can do). Private health insurance and care is still available so it's not like anyone losing anything by having a free service available to thosxe that can't afford private. Yet the conservatives make out the NHS as though it's Nazi Germany where only the young and strong are allowed to survive.

Lastly in separate article someone found this gem:

From the Investor's Business Daily:

"People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

There's just one tiny little problem with this: Stephen Hawking was born and raised in the UK and has lived there all his life. He teaches at Cambridge. That's in the UK. This ranks up ther

Word Origin & History

entrepreneur

1828, reborrowing of Fr. entrepreneur "one who undertakes or manages," from O.Fr. entreprendre "undertake." The word first crossed the Channel c.1475, but did not stay.

I've been following a few debates on the subject on various forums, and it's fucking terrifying what many of them believe about socialised medicine.

None of them seem to get that the US pays MORE per capita for healthcare with their current system than any socialised system does, and with worse outcomes.

Also 'I don't want some bureaucrat managing my healthcare' - and yet, they have to fight their fucking insurance company bureaucrats to get approved for any procedure? Bureaucrats who's #1 goal is PROFIT, not healthcare. Neutral

Let 'em rot.

I'll confess to a lot of that post being copy and paste.

NZ is 41st. It out ranks the US on thinks like life expectancy and infant mortality.

Obvious reasons for NZ being ranked lower is that it is a small sparely populated country. Building big hospitals with expensive equipment is difficult in NZ because it will only be able to service a small number of people. If you do the same in the AUS or UK etc it can service a large number of people, making it far more economically viable.
