Man.. no matter what the practice pace suggests they sure know how to come up with the perfect balance to last the distance on race-day.

Especially their tyre use... they seem to set themselves up so they improve during each stint, which is so hard to do. Alonso manages to run his car early with slight oversteer so that he's got the right amount of understeer in the 2nd half of every stint. Everyone else seems to have the opposite theory, running fast early and then fading.

They are teaching everyone a masterclass in tactics at the moment.

I wonder how long before Pat Symonds starts to get the huge salary offers from the big spenders in the grid.

Cos let's face it, Renault are the best payers in F1, which makes their acheievements all the more impressive.

I don't know why people say that. At this point last year Kimi was closer to Alonso's points than Schumy is now.

Consistency over the season is really the winning game in F1 now. Ferrari won a couple of world champs not only by being the fastest, but because their nearest rivals all suffered tons of gear failures. Renault is doing a great job but Ferrari are again proving very reliable.

It would only take a couple of Schumy wins with Alonso failing to finish to catch up.

Problem being, Schumy would need to win the next four races with Alonso coming no better than 5th in any of them, just to catch up with him.

Alonso had an OK day considering how few cars finished.

And from memory, Alonso's on a new engine next race whereas Schumy will be on race 2 of his. (I could be wrong)

A long way to go yet, a couple of fast tracks in a row have shown Ferrari's strengths and Renault still managed to win a couple of them.. but there are a few slower ones on the trot shortly and it'll be interesting to see how Farrari hold up.

Whilst finishing at all in a race of high attrition is good, finishing 5th out of 9 cars is not a good result imho. But it is all he needs to keep tabs on the championship at this point in time.

I'd say the rest of the year is not too slow.

France - Fast
Germany - Mickey mouse with one or two decent straights
Hungary - Slow
Turkey - Fast (typical Tilke)
Monza - Fast
China - Fast
Japan - Medium
Brazil - Neither here nor there.

Could be an interesting race to the finish line.
