Remote Desktop

Anyone know a good program to use to do this ?

use the one built into Windows XP Professional

What OS? Windows terminal services seems to do the job for me.

RDP is great cept when you disconnect it can stop some things working. vnc is also pretty good but i get random disconnections from it fairly often

VNC is really slow at drawing the screen (depending on the speed/distance I guess) and tends to screw up the look of stuff though.

at work i use the standard windows xp one (pinhole port 3389). vnc (port 5800) is good in the fact you can use it through a webpage, so can use it from any pc anywhere

They are pretty much the only two worth looking at..

Anyone got a rough idea how much bandwidth the remote desktop built into XP tends to use?

We're on a fairly limited Jetstream plan here at work.

you can change it to suit your bandwidth it will even work on dial up.

Yeah it is designed to 56k, but works best at 128k or above.

Depends on what you want to do imho. If you are simply doing it over the LAN on XP machines, Remote Desktop works great. You can install it from the XP cd on all the modern versions of Windows and access both XP and 2K TS as well.


Over the 'net, I can't really add anything, never had to do it. VNC seems to be the steez tho.
