I need to record some sound bites from the intarwebs and I thought I had everything I needed to do it, but somehow... fail.

Quick Rundown:

Vista
Up to date audio drivers
Audacity
No recording device options in Audacity for some reason

The only recording device options via the control panel are 2 mics (Unavailable, because I dont have any) and Line In which I cant be fucked jacking with round the back of the PC because I need to hear what Im recording and I dont have a double jack.

And yes, I ticked "show hidden/disabled inputs" Sad

Any suggestions? This is annoying the fuck out of me Mad

What audio drivers? To my knowledge, Audacity doesn't support any ASIO-based drivers.

Anything else I can use to record whatevers coming out of the speakers?

Yeah I encountered problems in the past to do with ASIO as well. Stupid, since anyone who is serious about music will be using ASIO drivers.

I think you can find Audacity with compiled ASIO support, but you'll have to hunt for it.

I just go to the recording volume controls and select "Wave out mix" as the recording source. (or the selction to that effect, I've seen it called stereo out etc).

Then any program that'll record will work. Microsoft sound recorder works. I use goldwave myself.

That record source isn't displayed by default so I had to enable it from the options properties menu off the volume controls.

Im using Vista. The interface for the recording volume control is different and has a mixer rather than line in/wave out etc volume controls.

I tried to add a new record input in the control panel but computer said no. Said there was no other input sources available. I blame Microsoft Razz

Ive downloaded some new Realtek drivers from the company themself rather than getting via Windows so hopefully that helps the situation Smile

Yeah did it on my mates Vista PC today, esentially the same method. After I clicked show disabled inputs it allowed me to enable the stereo mix as a recording source so having the right (manufacturer) drivers is probably the key??

Yeah, it was. I went and got the manufacturers drivers instead of Windows BS, and now its enabled. Thanks though Smile
