Recording a mix

Hey fellas I'm having a little bit of trouble with the volume of my sets I record and need some technical advice ( bet proof is one of the first to reply ] ). I'm finding like most people that the sound when I play my seys back to myself that the volume has to be turned up full to hear a decent level of sound.

I'm recording from digital out on the djm800 to an external M-audio audiophile usb sound card in s/pdif rca port. I'm using cool edit pro 2.2 software to record with and my laptop is connected to the external sound card through usb. Are there anyways I can boost volume without affecting quality of the recording. Possibly choosing different inputs ?
