ive got a ripper set of pioneers if your interested, they were in my pulsar parcel tray for about 1month and I took them out to sell the car
message me if your keen Smile

Most good brands are ok, but if buying brand new, take note of the frequency response curve (the flatter the better i.e not too many peaks and troughs for a nice even sound) and the sensitivity (the higher the Db rating, the louder they will go with the same amount of power). Music

Infinity's should see you right for some rear fill?

How come you are getting rear speakers?

What level or standard is your front stage at?
[quote]
Not sure if I'll get the terminology correct here, but the front has pioneer components or splits? I.e. what I'm assuming are 5-5.5" in the door, and two tweeters either side at the bottom of the a pillars. Run from a 50x4 head deck, which is adequate for my needs/budget at the moment. The sound is faded most of the way forward because the factory rear speakers can't handle much power.

they're not factory.

What are they? You did say the sound is faded heavily forward because the rear speakers are pies, eh?
[quote]
So are your fronts factory or after market?

aftermarket

They're 6" Pioneer jobbies, I kept the standard covers though rather than replacing them with the Pioneer ones. They weren't very expensive, I decided that I wanted better sound up front than at the back, so spent probably half as much on the rear speakers as I did on the fronts. I always had the fader on the stereo set to about +2 to the front.
[quote]
ah ok... might have to have a play and see if I can get them to sound a bit better then.
[quote]
Ok.

Always better to get a good front sound first.

On a very good stereo many people don't need rear speakers at all. So good front speakers are the first port of call.

If you have got them just play around to see if you can get them to sound good first and then work from there.

say one had a decent pair of 6" pioneers in th front and average 6.5" jensens in the parcel shelf, along with a pioneer deh-4650 50x4 up front. wat would be ur next step in bettering the system? upgraded speakers? amp? sub? i guess it depends on personal preference and so forth?

The next step would be a sub and an amp, and also a cross over to cut the low bass from your speakers. This will allow your speakers to go louder without distorting to match the volume of the sub.
Or just get an amp for your speakers....

will a 4channel amp to drive my speakers make a vastly noticeable increase in sound quality and volume, compared to just the cd deck drivin em? i guess it would depend on the power handling of the speakers?

short answer yes, amplification in the head unit is weak at the best of times, you will be giving your speakers proper raw power with a rated amp. You will notice a huge diference in actualy sound qaulity from CD -> RCA signal to amplitfied speaker output vs the puss ass caps in the head unit.
[quote]
yeah what nemesis said, although by the sounds of things you would need to upgrade your rears to maybe some 6x9's just to give your speakers a little more surface area for some more noticable bass at high volumes.

Get a 4 channel amp, run the front speakers off two of the channels and run a sub bridged across the other two channels.

The increase in quality will be substantial.

You won't need a big sub with this setup, you can get by with a 10" in a small sealed box so it doesn't take up much room either.

Do you know the setup of the rca's for that headunit? 2 set of rca's (front and rear), 1 set of rca's, or front and sub set up?
[quote]
checked, its only a deh-3450 and only 1 pair of rca's i think..

could u recommend a decent 4 channel amp for a reasonable cost? could possibly get this one cos i can get trade prices on pioneer gear, so about $315 or so

if you are getting a 4 channel amp to power your front speakers you may want to think about getting some component speakers (with a seperate tweeter) for some decent sound quality. Then switch the current fronts to the rear....

sub-wise, if i was going to throw a sub in the boot, should i be spending time working out enclosure volumes etc or is any old boxed sub going to be fine for my kinda application? and could u use 2 channels to power th fronts and bridge th other 2 into the sub?

Yup thats exactly how you wanna use your amp. i wouldnt bother about working out a box volume unless you are really serious about SPL levels. any old 12 inch with box would do if you are looking at relativly low power, but i would recommend a sealed box rather than a ported box, due to the nature of the sound response. Sealed box will give you an even spread on frequency volume, wher as a ported box will give you high volume at a particular frequency, but not an even sound curve.
[quote]
yeah it looks ok, but i wouldnt spend any more than $150 on it. You wanna get a nice carpeted box if you can. If you go to parallel imports they have some deals on sub and amp packages....
[quote]
bought it. $80 bucks cant complain
[quote]
yeah thats a steal. should be a nice easy way to boost your sounds.....
[quote]
I have JBL 6x9 in the back and alpine type R in the front and its really nice clear loud sound ..

Good luck Smile

yea my parcel shelf's cut for a pair of 6.5s, currently hosting a weakass pair of reactor rs652 200w speakers.. wouldnt mind getting a better quality pair.. any suggestions?
