No one does it for me quite like Mark Farina. He just seems to flow better than any other house dj I've heard. I like him better than Derrick Carter (hey, just my opinion) and I particularly dig the tunes he's been playing since about last year.

Does anyone have any sets, or links to sets, of Farina in action from the last year and a half or so? I've got his set at Focus 21 Oct last year (http://funkmeharder.net/index.php?page=2) but that's all so far.

And if by chance anyone has a recording of his set in Auckland last year I would do ANYTHING (yes, I'm loose) to get a hold of that.

Thanks peeps!
Seb

You should have seen him at Ellerslie Racecourse in about 1998...

1000 people in one room listening to Stacey Pullen.

10 people in the other (bigger) room listening to Farina.

Nuff said, he didn't look too impressed.

Wow. That sounds awkward! At least he kept coming back to New Zealand. What a good dude!

he comes here cos he is shit and no-one else wants him.

my personal opinion only

Yeah, to be honest I've seen him do some total clangers too. On the other hand have seen some great sets too.

Yeah I like to click on threads about Djs I'm not into as well. Wanna cyber?

is it like scatting?

found a couple of mixes on sound cloud

don't see many of his sets around the traps, got a gawdaweful 6 hour one last year

he's hit and miss IMO

There'll be scatting alright. And I'm not talking about Louis Armstrong styles.

I like deep house too but I'm particularly digging Farina's recent stuff with jumpy male hip hop vocals over house beats. His mixes I've heard from the last year and a half have been better than the older ones which is why I'm on the prowl.

I'm not eternally on the quest for the newest tune so things being old doesn't really bother me. I just like the good vibes, and Farina delivers in high doses!

A link here to some sets from DEMF last year; you can find his set here but pro tip cassy and guillaume coutu dumont were superior so check those sets too if you get a chance.

Farina is possibly the most overrated DJ on the planet. A great mixer with shit track selection.
[quote]
Yeah, nah. Thanks though. Next!

Headline reads :

"mark farina in crap dj shocker says Kojack"

Ha. A few people here should be questioning why they now think the music they used to love 5 years ago is shit. If I like something I'll like it forever, because it's all about the good sounds. Farina brings the good sounds in abundance. Haters need not apply.

Yeah nah, we are never going to see eye to eye on that one. If I cared enough I could provide a list as long as your arm of DJs more highly overrated than Farina Razz

/apologies if you don't have arms Embarassed

Really? For me (and probably many others) the point is to be finding new and interesting music.. If you really consider Farina to be doing that then good luck to you I guess.

btw I don't agree that he's overrated, you've got to be highly rated by many people before you can be overrated!

While that is definitely the case for me, I don't need everybody I listen to to be groundbreaking or pushing boundaries. Sometimes it's nice to go to something that doesn't make me stroke my beard in the corner, and Farina is someone that I have relatively consistently had fun going to / listening to his comps.

Dammit, I'm starting to sound like dalai Sad

Ha, all marky mark ever does on this website is bag farina and derrick carter. Propa posting.

Farina is in his neich, cant blame him for not staying there. Also he never touches anything progressive or minimal and i like himi for that.

His sets sound like one long song... I prefer his mushroom jazz much more

ya sound like a parent

`This new fangled muic is crap, it was much better back in my day'

`I won't change cos its all shit now, look at ZZ top, still making great music!'
