Hey all,

I went and bought some more RAM today (128Mb PC133 8Pin SDRam) its exactly (apart from brand)the same as whats currently in there.

I get the error messgae "Windows has found an error in your registry. Windows will restart and repair the problem"

It restarts and again the same message...

Am I doing something wrong?? should I be changing something in my BIOS settings?

Its an old Duron 900 machine.

put the old stuff back in and see if it works?

if its booting into windows you might have a virus?

I removed the old stuff and it boots fine.. I tried sticking the new RAM in the old RAM slot and putting the old RAM in the next slot. On the first attempt (with the new RAM in the next available slot) the computer booted to windows and the errors started, and everything crashed. With the RAM in the first slot the computer gets past the initial boot stage (RAM check etc.) and then brings up the message and proceeds to go round in a circle....

I've removed the new RAM booted up (all fine) updated my virus registry and done a virus check... NOTHING!!....

Its all a bit confusing.. I'm thinking the new RAM is fucked.... fucking crappy DSE shit!!!

lol, just because it is the same 'type' of ram does not mean it will necessarily work with different makes of ram. I have had this problem before, it really is best to buy the same brand, if you cant get the same brand then take your computer in and ask to try the different types until you find a compatable brand Smile

Meh!!!!

I'l just go buy a 256Mb chip 2 moro and be done with it!!

lol fair enough, make sure its compatible with your motherboard though huh Smile

ok dse...

IS

SHIT

i kid you not i have taken back 7 sticks of legend 16chip sd133 256mb ram

So with the old ram go and make yourself a memtest boot cd/floopy and stick the new ram only in - it will boot on the floppy/cd and test the ram - write down the location of any errors (like 72mb) and take it back and swear at them (they tried to tell me they hadnt had any other problems...) theyre ussually pretty good about replacing it but ask to get a refund (they dont have to tho) and go get some from somewhere else -

MAKE SURE ITS THE RIGHT RAM THO

Heh having used to work there I still have a couple of "contacts" who give me pretty good discounts (staff discounts Wink) .. but we always had troucle with them when I worked there and that was 4 years ago Rolling Eyes

I'll take it back tomorrow and get a 256MB chip...if that wroks fine I'll get another.... hopefully there won't be too many returns involved

buy kingston.

i tell all my customers to have a look on www.kingston.com for their motherboard in their database, then it tells you exactly wot part number memory you need thats confirmed compatible with yoru mboard. specially helpful when u are dealing with shitty machines like dell, HP, compaq etc etc Smile

transcend and all other major brands should have their own websites like that also

Bought a 256mb chip from them today...

You guessed it same fucking issue!!!!

Useless cheap crap!!! Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad

Why are you buying hardware from DSE? Surely you can get the parts cheaper elsewhere.

Corsair are really good as well..!!

I buy kingston from http://ascent.co.nz and i've never had a problem. You ave to be careful to get exactly the right type of RAM, there's so many. Look at the online manual for your motherboard to make sure you get it right.
