What do you guys think of this....

I had a stick of 512 DDR333 ram fail at xmas time, no worries I sent it back to where I got it from & they replaced it.
Just now I rebooted my desktop & nothing...the monitor comes up with no video signal...looks like the ram has failed, only this time I have 2 sticks of 512 mb.
So is it possilbe that both sticks would fail at the same time ? or is there a problem else where to cause this.
I tired swapping the ram around in every combo ( 1 stick in evry slot etc )but nothing...
the m/b has power but just won't boot.

Have you changed anything lately?

check the switch and connections?

is it a dell?

Can you boot without the ram?

can you swap the psu out?

Unplug everything you can except the gpu and see if you can get it to boot.

No it's not a Dell....I haven't been under the hood since xmas
I did install some software yesterday....ac3 codec & some avi to dvd stuff...the reason I rebooted was 'cos the mouse went all crazy & pages started scrolling like crazy when I viewed them ???
Could software cause it ?

unplug everything and boot from scratch. then in safe mode - you might have fucked up some drivers but the computer should still get through post.

tried another psu ...nothing, tried a brand new stick of ram..still nothing, tried another graphics card..nothing, it won't post

I'm thinking maybe the m/b has gone toes up ?
and here's the killer.... the system is out of warranty by 1 week Mad

it's an asus A7N8X Deluxe m/b

** Update if anyone is interested **
Wasn't the power supply....
Well it wasn't the ram.. bought a new stick..still nothing
wasn't the motherboard.... bought a new motherboard
wasn't the CPU .. bought a new one

it was the motherfucking reset button on the motherfucking case !! Mad

Man I am pissed...something so simple

oh well chalk that one up to one of lifes lessons I guess Smile

heh its always the simple thing that screws you up.

Aside from the obvious explanation, what does a 'power conditioner' actually do?

Its like a cheap UPS - it uses a capacitor instead of batteries so when the voltage sags it draws more current to compensate but keeps the output voltage the same.

I also use a ups but things like 19" screens and laser copiers trip the overload when you turn them on. Unless i feel like buying an expensive online UPS its more effective to buya 1200W power conditioner for ~$120.
