Why is there little or no "full-on'' psy trance being played in Auckland?

Seems to be mostly progressive ??

cause progressive is cool man!

heh heh heh.... at least they got the phat sound system, i guess they can play whatever the want... damn i miss that EV rig....

*dreams away to visions....*

i geuss the answer cant be put down to one contributing factor, but heres a couple of ideas. When you say full-on im assuming you mean psycadelic (goa-shredda).

Most of us who started out playing psy( i bought my first goa record in about 95-96) were obviously drawn to the sound, because of the people, the parties, but ultimately the "fullon-ness" of the music. The fact that it was so extremley different from anything else on these shores was the draw card. Through the late nineties and up till mid 2000 "psycadelic" trance in ak was obviously at the forefront of this scene for both djs and punters alike. Like all forms of music, development, evolution and progression are all envitavble paths for any genre of music to move through. As the millenium turned, not just the music, but the artwork and clothing of those involved in this scene became slicker, sharper and more refined(structured?). Although trance is traditionally an outdoor-organic-environmental style of music, I think that the prog sound being touted at the moment is more reflective of the urban environment most of us live in. Thats not to say that openair partations arent still the venue of choice often the weather here doesnt work in unison.

The second, probably a little less obvious is that all djs and majority of producers in ak, are into this sound. manta recordings is as a general rule a prog style label. all foriegn friends of this label stable were pioneers of this sound in the past three years. most hail from the european countries of austria, sweden, germany, portugal and france, where A) this sound is at the fore and B) little fullon music is coming out of these places. This means that generally all touring acts that come to ak play this flavour, it also means when our djs travel this is the music that they pickup.

I think that a change in "diet" about two years ago obviously has an effect on choice of music.

Disclaimer; several sweeping generalizations, and there are still individuals who love the goa sound in ak its just noone plays it.

IMO

Thanx for that-I think you have summed it up fairly nicely and pretty much what I thought, when you have one of Iboga records leading acts the spinoff would be that the parties you guys throw in Auckland would be progressive.

When I talk about "full-on" it's pretty much the acts from the following labels-Spun, Alchemy, Ketuh,Compact-recs,Starsounds,Arcadia, to a degree Solstice,Shafell,Tribadelic, the ever ubiquitious Tip-World, Acid Dance, Inti Raimy,Parvarti, Nano, Alien Safari,Neurobiotic,Timecode etc etc. These are all labels we are constantly trying to play our here in Wellington and Christchurch, a litle bit higher energy type stuff without the fluffiness and still retaining all its psychedelicness. Don't get me wrong however the last 2 releases on Iboga-FX and that Japanese Iboga release fuzzion are all good and it was an idea that at the last party we threw that we would have a Progressive DJ (Trippy Kiwi) who pulled it off stuningly. There seems to be a place for progressive here too!
There is for sure a time and place for it and as someone said its not so much about the music but more about the journey!

Anyway getting back to why I asked the question in the first place, I have been talking to somebody who has just moved to Auckland after living abroad for a few years and is a totally "full-on" nut and was considering starting some "full-on" parties up there considering nobody was doing it up there. Auckland is a pretty big market and with an established psy trance crowd already in Auckland he was just wondering what the repsonse would be and if it was a viable option.

Could it be worth thinking about ??

Just a shout out to see if there are any kiwis who read this.

I am trying to catch up with other psy trance folk here in Auckland. Especially those into full on Psy Trance. I realise that Manta and Cyber Culture are doing their thing - but I am hoping there are some people floating around into Full on Psychedelic Trance. I am keen to hook up with anyone into full on trance for a session or just a chat, with an eventual aim of throwing some full on parties, getting a community going and seeing if we can't shake this town up a bit.

Let me know

Hi all.

Well I'm the Dave in the post above, and have managed to log in to these forums finally.

Progressive and Auckland? Hmm don't get me started. I think it comes down to that being all people here know, a self perpetuating story. No one knows anything else is possible... But it just doesn't cut it - it is Dance music for those who don't dance. . .

I am keen to change all that but could do with a little bit of help. I want to get in touch with anyone into full-on PSychedelic Trance. I need a few more peope who DJ so we can get a party scene going.

Even if you don't mix get in touch as I want to start getting as many email address as possible so that when things are ready to go I can spread the word easily.

I too believe that if we play, they will come. The full-om boys in Wellington are making things hum down there and I see no reason why we can't get the Auckland people charging as well.

If you want to help in any way, or want to meet to swap music, ideas, etc drop me a line.

Full on psy has reached its peak her in melbourne, full on has been going sik for the last 2 years and has now seen the birth of psygressive. As the usual trend is here the sound of a party usually starts of funky then dark then full on then progressive, but the progressive sound around the world is just starting to sound very dull compared to what else is around.
So in the last 6 months psygressive apeared, slow like progressive but having its full on psy synths and break downs...this sound has really caught on very tasty is useually played at 140-145. Its the nest big sound in psy. Shocked

So I take it no-one over in NZ is sik of GMS or Skazi yet..... Excellent

and why is there no all age psy parties Confused
[quote]
almost all the outdoor parties i've attended have been open to all ages, dogs, whatever. i think fair enuff for a club to restrict the age with a scene that has a reputation for a lot of substance indulgence. also, outdoors is so much easier for younger ppl. room to roam.

lets get some illegal outdoorsies happening. get yur asses out of the stinkin' city!

did i say illegal?

oops
[quote]
Yeah man, thats such the call. Sth Island has their fair share, but up here has fuk all. Apart from cyberculture and i guess potatorave there arent any (that i know of) happening on a semi regular basis... Sad
Just need people with land out in the bush to be keen, or to get the big dawg promoters behind it... seems like bling$ the only thing their in it for.

Keen as to give as much as I can to getting things started! Laughing

In melbourne there is a crew called Transplant...

Here is ther link www.tranceplant.org

There sites have been donated and permits granted because the sites they use are barron and all the doofers plant a few trees each during the day and then doof at night, then go home leaving a little baby forest behind,

Its through crews like these that have givin the melbourne scene such a good name with counsils the general public and even the authority's..

Even illigal party's get the, "just turn it down abit" from the boys in blue and they'll just hang around and talk sometimes....

If you want the support of your community then give something to it to show that all you want to do is dance.

We always need help promoting the party's as the more people that come to our party's the more dinero's we have to spend on getting people to come over here and play..airfares etc. are what make it realy difficult but any energy freely spent on our adventures is always appreciated!!!!!

Well after heading to the Full Om party last weekend I realised that it was about time to start organising something up here. Had the benefit of meeting Couch, Fergus and all the rest of the Wgtn crowd. Also met some people keen to play up in Auckland. So now I have at least a few people who are keen to play I will get things rolling up here.

Lots to do to get up to the Full Om standard but it will come!!

Stay tuned.
