Today's gripe that's been annoying me for years.. What's up with lots of websites asking you to confirm your email address when you've already typed it in? Are they idiots? You can see what you've typed because it's right there in plain text in front of you. What's the point? Of course I get it for passwords because you can't see what you've typed so it makes sense to re-type it in case you entered a wrong character without realising. I just copy the email address and paste it into the confirm box.
Yeah its annoying......must have been some middle management lame for the internet being like lets make this dumb procedure to piss people off and make me look clever....
When biggie changed from the everybody.net board (or whatever it was) and we had to register all over again, I typed my email address in wrong for whatever my user name was back then had to use Jono as the confirmation email went off to a non-existant email address.
In fact this has given me a possibly really good idea for a form validation for email addresses. But I'm not gonna tell, I'll just stick it in the website I'm building atm and see how it's received.
I reckon all that's needed for the people who can't read good is to put "Please check your email address is correct before clicking Next" or something of the like.
